This has been an expensive morning for me. Backed this for 2 sets. Also, backed Wallace, Vengeance of Witches, and Cthulhuween.

No, but might I suggest some spa days might lessen the impact. Expensive? ...Duh!

Re: Patternwork by Jack Brutus Penny
Yes but I fear I might once regret it , I bought Room52 with fomo and now I dont even like the 1/2 brick box , Im an INTL collector so for me selling is also difficult incase I dont like to keep it anymore , that thing is heavy and Im not sure how well customs will treat it

Re: Patternwork by Jack Brutus Penny
I get the FOMO regrets. Personally, I think the box will be a nice add for a collection. Though, I did have some pause for 6 deck variations. In the end, I decided I really like the decks and want to support JBP.

Room52 was a very different beast where it was 1 deck with a lot of backs this is at least several different decks.

Re: Patternwork by Jack Brutus Penny
That die might be hard to read in practice. I guess seeing a prototype eventually might mitigate that issue. Reminds me of Riley Sheehey's card drawings.
I hadn't realized the backs were two patterns. I really like the courts on these but I'm considering dropping my 1 deck pledge. I've been getting dopamine hits from resisting purchasing "maybes" and proud of myself for self-control, but I'm still conflicted on this one.

Re: Patternwork by Jack Brutus Penny
His rarest stuff will always be what you get from being a patron. It's November so there isn't anything further anticipated this year aside from us getting our rewards at some point. I don't understand what the rarity has to do with the purchasing decision unless someone is buying with the possible intention to sell.
The box would've been cool if it wasn't patternwork specific. It's expensive but Jack isn't really making any profit on the box, he said. He wanted to make it for his fans.

The box is limited to 100 and the decks themselves are limited to 550 each. They're the same decks in the box than without the box, yeah.

The box also includes the metal plates which are only available in the box set. Depends if you collect items like that.

Got my deck today. Somehow even better than expected. From the sheen on the flawless die cut slip, to the edge printing, to the foiling on the cards - EASILY one of the most beautiful decks I own.

I love the lid of the small box. The first time I saw a box like the big one, was my mother-in-law's sewing box - 50yrs ago.

Re: Patternwork by Jack Brutus Penny
I opened mine today. Everything came out very nicely for sure. The dice, despite the change in plan caused by the vendor is a phenomenonally well done piece (it's just not the same as what was originally agreed upon)

Re: Patternwork by Jack Brutus Penny
To clarify the comment in case anyone is curious, originally jack intended the dice to look something like this
instead what they made were more metal based (these things are heavy I wouldn't want to roll them on a wood table)
They're nice, though there arent 6 clear numbered faces (basically there are 2 2s, 2 4s and a 6, you have to use your imagination for the 1, 3 and 5 substituting a yellow flower or bug as the center pip) to be used as an actual dice.
He threw in a free deck to compensate, again totally not his fault and hes taken a financial hit from the vendor overpromising.

Re: Patternwork by Jack Brutus Penny
I would agree. I feel for Jack in that it feels like the vendor overpromised and completely missed on delivery. That said, what was received is very little like what was promised. It's nice that backers were given a deck to make up for it but not particularly thrilled with what I got as it is VERY different from the render. I wouldn't have backed for what I received. It is extremely difficult to make any sense of the numbers on the die.
The boxes (both large and small) are absolutely incredible and I would echo that the packaging is beyond anything else I have ever received. Pretty sure I can now open up my own bubble wrap business.

Re: Patternwork by Jack Brutus Penny
I received Jack's crowdfunded project, Patternwork. The card deck itself is exquisitely crafted, and I'm very satisfied with it. However, the wooden box left me extremely, extremely, extremely disappointed. The moment I got it, four or five screws had already fallen out. I checked the screw sizes and found they were too short—the wrong type. I tried fixing it myself, but the screws still kept falling out. So my wooden box is essentially falling apart when opened, which is very disappointing. Such an expensive handcrafted item should have undergone factory quality control. I hope Jack or the manufacturer learns from this mistake.

Oh no, that is terrible. It has me concerned for my own as well, I'll have to examine it when I get time. Have you tried reaching out to Jack on this?

From the way you wrote that, it suggests you haven't reached out to Jack yet. I strongly suggest that you do. Im certain he'll make it right. Still sucks that it happened though.tony liu wrote: ↑Mon Mar 02, 2026 6:11 am I received Jack's crowdfunded project, Patternwork.
