Recently I developed an interest in The New Yorker magazine - primarily their cover art
I love what you can access on their site
And I have the two wonderful books
Covering The New Yorker (c2000)
The Complete Book of Covers from The New Yorker 1925-1989
I also have the 100 covers postcard set plus a couple of somewhat older magazines from 30 years ago
So last month I thought I would pick up a recent edition to compare (harder for us in Oz to do than for you guys)
Wow how quality slips when it comes to cover material
Straight away I noticed how thin the cover was so I go out the micrometer to compare the new with the old
The old covers are 0.12mm thick while the new are paper thin at 0.07mm
That is much thinner than photocopy paper so for any I want hardcopies of, I might be better off buying digital downloads to have printed.

Re: The New Yorker
Capitalism at its best. Everything regresses because itβs bound to profit.
You want to reclaim your mind and get it out of the hands of the cultural engineers who want to turn you into a half-baked moron consuming all this trash thatβs being manufactured out of the bones of a dying world.
