General Admission by KWP - Aug2020 Shorts deck
Definitely a deck that goes on the have-to-list will be, the later this year coming General Admission. No courts yet but knowing Jackson and his splendid work on designing courts I doubt that they'll be a let down.

Yep. He has asked for mug shots of subscribers. So, some familiar, or not so familiar, folks might show up on the subscription deck. Hmm, Shifty Squirrel vs. Rocky Puck...

Wasn't that for the Edred the Gizard deck, Bradius?

Edred the Gizzard was for older family members of subscribers from the 1930s or so. Mine was one of my Great Grandfathers who was born in 1888.
This time the request is for subcribers themselves, so a little different. My problem is the camera keeps shattering every time I try to take a self-portrait.

So you were the guy that commisioned Jackson? How many bricks does he have to get printed?

Re: General Admission by KWP -
I wish I could afford a commission by Jackson. In the case of Edred, it was a general call to all subscribers to send in photos. My file sent was actually a photo of a hand-drawn pencil portrait of my Great Grandfather that he had done I guess back in the 1930's. My understanding is it was done as he was one of the Board of Directors of a local Bank where he lived.

Ah, my bad. You meant your photo. Must be super cool to have that in a KWP deck now
. Edred was such a dope idea. Definitely on my must-have list.

So sad. Tuck was intriguing but back and front coloring have nothing to do with General Admission to me. I was hoping for a ticket style.
Move on, nothing to see here.

Re: General Admission by KWP -
What about the ticket stub style matrix and layout. "Row" and "Seat" replaced with "Card" and "suit" also the borders and design elements and composition are very inline with vintage ticket stubs as well as background color combos and graphic elements. Also the King is holding a ticket.RichK wrote:So sad. Tuck was intriguing but back and front coloring have nothing to do with General Admission to me. I was hoping for a ticket style.

Cheer up sad panda. I like card layout. It's the colors that turn me off. Yes I Googled "vintage ticket stubs". I feel like you might have gone a bit too much striping coloring. Just my opinion.JacksonRobinson wrote:What about the ticket stub style matrix and layout. In my opinion it's perfectly in line with ticket stub aesthetic without being so "on the nose" that it gets boring. That's what's great about it (and difficult to pull off)..... applying a certain aesthetic while still keeping it both recognizable as a deck of cards and interesting/surprising throughout.
Nice work, man

Totally understandable, the colors for me are one of my favorite parts of some of the old ticket stubs.RichK wrote:Cheer up sad panda. I like card layout. It's the colors that turn me off. TIme to get a little acquainted:
https://kingswildproject.com/
The subscription deck is a limited run where you get a new deck(s) each month. These decks are generally designs that are more tests and experiments. Some may be hits out of the part, and others may not be. What is interesting is a lot have different favorites. I really like the Postage Paid deck. Overall, I really have liked the series and the different designs.
The most anticipated deck(s) for me are the Lord of the Rings series he is developing and should go on Kickstarter toward the end of the year. There are threads here or on his instagram.

Cool though I'm not quite sure which one I should look into getting in the future. I think I like the limited but I can't quite tell the difference other than numbered and sealed.

Re: General Admission by KWP -
You can tell no difference because there is none with the cards. The shorts decks are one print run. A bunch of them get gilded to become the gilded version and the rest gets split; for subscribers as the limited ones with a different tucks and what's left over is going to be the standard editions.

Is this meant to be a play on the Dreamworks logo? Either way, I really like it.

Ahhhhhhh ok ok.
Wouldn't it make more sense with the joker holding a fishing rod? That way you get the cross-section of custom cards and the cinema.

That joker (jester) has been around for over 100 years (have to double-check my Hochman's to confirm). 52+ uses it because, why not? And JR has used it before, too (Maduro deck for one). Maybe Dreamworks stole it from the USPCC, Hoyle, or whoever first produced it?PiazzaDelivery wrote:Ahhhhhhh ok ok.

It's the Joker from the Steamboats #199 deck by SPCC (Standard Playing Card Manufacturing Company).
I guess 52+ uses it because SPCC was located and based in Chicago and they have a big connection to a chicago based card club (I'm possibly totally butchering this but hey, I'm a fresh member so I don't know the whole history yet
Great jester and I love the modifications, but I somehow would have wished, like hsbc, for a different joker, that is more fitting to the courts as well. Still one of my favourite KWP decks ever. The courts are just too good, imo.
Would love to hear if somebody knows if that one-two-way-style was done before in the past?
