Re: United States ARMY deck - by Kings Wild - Cancelled
I dunno, I'm going to hold off judgement til I see more. But I'll say that If this deck goes in the direction I'm thinking it will be based on that Ace, I won't go in as heavy as I did for the previous incarnation.

Re: United States ARMY deck - by Kings Wild - Cancelled
I'm kind of tapped out on historical/realistic decks at the moment. Haven't backed RJ since Colonial, I'm not exactly excited for Jody's and more portraits of people just aren't doing it for me.
But that ace looks interesting. Seems to be a departure from Jackson's signature style of sketched portraits. Hope to see more. If it's less historic and more thematic I might be in.

Re: United States ARMY deck - Kings Wild Relaunch Jan 24-12
More art. Don't know about choice of two helicopters for two aces. But how about some armor and artillery? Or the willy's jeep or hmmwv... And how about the airborne soldier or the infantryman. Also, most everyone that's getting these decks will know what the things are, don't see a need to put a caption in. Just stands out and detracts from the artwork. If anything, make a legend card like before that states what's on every card.

He's using vehicles now instead of people?

The aces aren't usually people... So you can't really assume until you see a court card.

I like the trend of all the aces being custom!
However, the vehicles look to sketched and washed out for my liking. The text below also seems unnecessary.

I kinda like the text. It's interesting to know what it is, because otherwise I'd just see it as a helicopter. But now I know one is a Blackhawk and one is a huey. But that's just me.

Fair enough. Different strokes. I just think it would be better with all the information for all the cards on a separate card.Sher wrote:I kinda like the text. I really hope the last name banner thing in the middle of the court cards are done away with. I guess we'll see.

Funny all the people not liking this. I find this design way more appealing than the first one. I wouldn't have backed the previous project, I'm much more likely to now.

I like the fact that he's going for a different style. I, likewise, prefer this one to the original offering. Of course, I'd still like to see more....

Re: United States ARMY deck - Kings Wild Relaunch Jan 24-12
I agree- they jury's still out on this. I'm curious to see how many flavors he's releasing this time.. how many special editions/colors/etc. Also, being a US Army deck and given Jackson's history, I'm assuming it'll be printed by the USPCC so I'm also curious about the pricing. I like what I see so far though- it's a nice deviation from his normal work.rousselle wrote:Of course, I'd still like to see more....

Re: United States ARMY deck - Kings Wild Relaunch Jan 24-12
I'm finding these watercolor images full of motion and action. They're pretty great, this is something I wasn't expecting out of Kings Wild. I don't think great quite covers it though does it? It's not an easy thing to make it look simple and clean yet still capture motion and feel. Excellent work on these. Absolutely top notch on the imagery. Indices are pushed out and placed very well, I like that a lot.
With all those likes, there are of course things I don't like but you guys already know what they are haha. Not breakers for me, I'll be finding my way to pledging for sure.

TL:DR It's completely up to you.

Re: United States ARMY deck - Kings Wild Relaunch Jan 24-12
While this new style doesn't appeal to me very much, I'm still quite interested. I really loved the Fed series, but the 'money look' was being overdone. I wasn't very interested in the prior version of Army pledging for just a single deck, so I would say my interest is at least the same or slightly more than before. Glad to see he's evolving and using other styles.

Had to pass on the walnut box...very difficult since I love Jackson's hand-crafted wooden boxes.

A nice basic campaign. I like it. No multiple variations, just one nice deck. I'm in.

I actually let out a sigh of relief when I saw the tiers. All that adrenaline building up trying to take away Quick Draw McPierre's early birds...chach wrote:A nice basic campaign. I like it. No multiple variations, just one nice deck. I'm in.

While not my favorite KW deck, I really do love the fact that Jackson is branching out and trying something new. Honestly, the guy can't go wrong. He listens to constructive thoughts and adapts likewise. This project is def a win in my book.

I was happy about the lack of LE decks as well. I HAPPY to pick up 1 deck and $13 is on par with JR's other standard decks.

Love the courts on this, but the back and box seems to fall short in comparison in terms of color and vibrance. I'm not sure what it needs or how much of it (probably not a lot), but I feel like something is missing to bridge the gap, as it is the courts just stand out too much.

The whole thing needs to be tossed in a blender. The backs don't match the faces, the faces are all over the place. I am sure that he will homogenize it before it's printed. Very simple project, that I do appreciate!

You mean no one is going to complain about having to buy 12 decks in order to get a Kings Wild collectors brick box as a free gift?
Feeding the addiction one deck at a time.
