Ancient Relics Playing Cards

When Eastern ancient relics are transformed into characters, history awakens in your hands.

The cold-foil holo technique lets the millennia-old radiance linger at your fingertips.

Understood.
Although in their defense, AT LEAST they don’t pick the same artist like last time

Early bird for 5 decks + case is $50 - not bad. Not sure if these decks have holo foiling or not.

Not sure how I feel about the AI use, but Hoa can takes notes on this type of transparency.

I find it curious that people take objection to using AI for inspiration in cases where it has no presence in the final art.

Ive seen this sentiment in video games too, in pre-concept art (not even the concept art) where someone gives AI a bunch of prompts and then when it comes up with something that spawns a thought a human then draws the actual concept art and then final art.

Im fully onboard with AI should be used sparingly in the final products, but to help spawn creativity? seems fine to me

I'm not necessarily opposed, but without seeing any initial sketches, we as the consumer don't know much of the heavy lifting AI did. I'm not making accusations either. I think these decks look good but I'm saying it gave me an initial pause.

Also I don't think its fair to compare the medium of video games to playing cards for AI use.

On the subject of AI, and how much was used, I think I'm with KG on needing to see the sketches. An artist can take a lot of liberty with this type of style, but I'm seeing some AI type signs in the finished art. Take this card... not sure what's going on with his right hand, and that bird doesn't seem to have a head.

Hmmm, so basically, 52 Musee replied to me that....
Chung Feng (the Red one) is the main attraction of the series - all the cards will feature all the illustrations
The other four decks: only Jokers and Courts feature illustrations while the Numbers feature classic pips

I don't think thats a bad strategy, in a way it like the TCC 52 deck sets where you can get all of them in one deck if you want.

I'll still get the set (because its the only way to get the gilded decks..as usual...not the hugest fan but...hey)

The project is currently LIVE

Currently on the Gilded Set, but then one of my foot kinda tried to reach for the Standard set, or step back and wait for the Standard to be on sale on the webstore (and wait for discount)

Here's how the project page describes the concept and execution:
"We have carefully selected 54 exquisite Chinese relics from dozens of museums around the world. They are transformed into illustrations on the playing cards, each carrying the textures and light of civilization.

Based on photographic references of the original museum relics, the team reorganized their structures, established a cohesive visual style, and meticulously refined the linework, ultimately bringing the entire playing card series to completion".
Image

Here's an example of how this was executed with one card:
"Take the Mother-and-Child Elephant Zun as an example: this ceremonial vessel from three thousand years ago captures the tender moment of a mother elephant carrying her child.

We reinterpret it: the mother elephant becomes a human figure, embodying the guardian of wisdom, while the young elephant transforms into a lively “new life,” nestled by her side."

Some other examples of relics they used, and how these were adapted for playing cards:

Some of the cards produced from this kind of work:

TCC then took the result and made it look gorgeous with their iridescent holo foil. It's hard not to like the overall impact.

The Chung Feng deck is indeed the main attraction in the five deck set:

Here's a closer look at the artwork from some of the cards:

All the cards of the Chung Feng deck are fully illustrated.

The other four decks use a different color scheme for the tuck boxes and card backs.

While the court cards in these decks are all fully illustrated, the number and Aces cards just focus on customization without illustrations. These examples are from the SheJi deck.

Image

Image

The illustrations used for the court cards in each of the other decks are different from each other, however, so each deck is still unique besides a different color scheme. For instance, here's how the Queens look in each of those four decks:

Those illustrations are what are used on the number cards with the Chung Feng deck.

Finally, it's worth highlighting the five-deck bundle.

Image

There's also a collector's box where all the decks have gilded edges.

A few final examples of some relics that were adapted for playing card designs:

But for me it's really the iridescent foil on the cards that steals the show; I'm a sucker for shiny bling like that!

Great service as always, Ender

I’d be compiling the descriptions of each card later (the ones TCC elaborate on campaign updates)

I REALLY want to like these, but the more I zoom in on the art, the more weird AI flags I start to see. I have no doubt that there was human creativity in the concepting, but I’m thinking AI played a large part in the final designs on the cards.
