Re: A Haines Playing Cards - Patreon

Unread post by A. Haines »

Hi Deepcard. Patreon is a subscription platform that allows you to become a "Patron of the Arts" and support your favourite artists by signing up to monthly or annual membership plans. You are essentially supporting your chosen creator by making a financial contribution to their business, to help them carry on producing their work. Most creators start their monthly tiers at 2 or 3USD and the prices go up from there, depending on your budget and what you want to get out of it.

The flip-side is that, as a reward for your support, creators will offer reward schemes commensurate with your chosen tier.

It is not a shop or crowdfund in the traditional sense, as part of what you pay for is access to behind-the-scenes content, increased levels of engagement with your chosen artist, and helping to financially assist them with the running of their business. You will however be rewarded for your patronage in the form of rewards packs that are sent out every year or every 6mths for example, and for playing card creators this will usually be (unsurprisingly) playing cards! Often limited edition or exclusive decks as a special thank you, but not always, and most creators offer discount codes for their stores as well.

The membership page of all your chosen creators' patreons will give you all the info regarding what you get in exchange for your chosen level of patronage.

I hope this helps!

Have a great Christmas and holiday season :D

(Post 1 of 2) Just an update from me guys, work has now been completed on all the Year 1 decks - the exclusive members' deck is The Patron Sophisticated Playing Cards, in both British Racing Green and Merlot - some photos below.

Anyone interested is most welcome to take a look at our page: A HAINES PATREON

Happy to answer any questions you may have on here, but first and foremost Year 1 is still open for new members, so if you like the look of the Year 1 decks come and check out the page :D We also have an antique restoration deck which I will post some photos of separately

(Post 2 of 2) Alongside The Patron Sophisticated Playing Cards, our other Year 1 deck is a restoration project, The New York Consolidated Card Company Triton No. 42 Playing Cards in graphite, included in all rewards tiers Diamonds and upward, painstakingly redrawn by hand using an original antique deck as reference. I hope some of you like what you see enough to consider joining our growing community - HERE - thank you for your interest!

Just a quick one from me guys - Year 1 has ended and Year 2 has begun! Anyone who would like to join us as we embark on the start of another journey into the creation, design, illustration and production of hand-drawn, vintage-inspired, small batch decks of playing cards would be most welcome! I was super happy with how the Year 1 decks turned out, and with Year 1 in general, but I have absolutely no doubt that Year 2 is going to be even better, and the decks even more super-duper.

You can check our Patreon out here

Thank you all! Hopefully some of you get to see this in between all those pesky error messages.

Cheers :D

Was able to acquire the two Patrons Year 1 decks on eBay for $70 and I'm excited to open them once they arrive.

Silly me didn't realize patrons just got access to buying the surplus of these decks a few days ago, so what I thought was a steal may have been someone flipping decks. I'm a sucker. Oops!

Regardless, I'm happy to have these on the way. Alex's takes on standard courts are some of the best, with the Patrons decks taking the cake.

Mine and brownsl's point reigns true now more than ever. These are decks I would've happily purchased standalone, and did. Excellent artwork on these cards, Alex.

I would ask a patron that is planning on buying some to also buy some for me but I am not sure if that goes against the spirit of being a patron of his.

The merlot edition unfortunately arrived with two dinged corners, so I was able to return it to the seller.

I did open the green one and the courts somehow looked larger in person than in the pictures! Weird trick of the eyes. I do wonder why the Jacks are less confined to the borders compared to the Kings & Queens, but a lovely interpretation of classic courts, nevertheless. The tuck definitely hits the mark of classy.

Hey everyone, just to update you all on what we're doing over on the AHPC Patreon for our second annual cycle. We are in the process of creating our Year 2 reward decks right now, posting artwork and time lapse drawing videos, and giving members the opportunity to vote on colour variations. This year will follow a similar format to Year 1, with a main reward deck in two editions and an antique restoration - this time a classic Goodall. I have included a preview image of some of the works in progress, members who come on board now for Year 2 will be opted in to Y2 rewards and get to follow along as these decks are brought to life before being printed and sent out in annual reward packs. Our main reward deck will feature our rendition of the fabled Norwood 85 courts, widely regarded as some of the finest standard courts ever produced, but included in a package featuring original artwork on the tuck, backs, Ace of Spades & Jokers. There is also the opportunity for members to pick up the Year 1 reward decks in our Members' Lounge area, for those who are interested. If you are familiar with our work already, or even if you aren't, and you like what you see, head across to https://www.patreon.com/ahplayingcards to find out more. We look forward to welcoming you aboard!

Value will also be added in the form of a completely new and original mini deck added to Y2 rewards if we reach 100 paid members by Christmas (!)

Skimming through P52 (the sort of thing you do when laid low with Covid)

I was led on a search which took me here

And this is their old fb page

Hey Alex, Jason McKinstry posted this Squeezers 35 on Instagram today
and I found what I think is a better half pic of it on WOPC

I think it would be a good one for you to 'reimagine' and add to your birds series

Just finished up painting the Queen of Spades for the Y2 reward deck, as some will recognise, a recreation of the fabled Norwood 85 courts, which will be integrated into a deck featuring original artwork on the tuck, Ace of Spades and jokers & printed in two colour-ways. Lots of work going into this one! This will feature alongside a full restoration deck from the British manufacturer Chas. Goodall & Son, tuck shown below.

For anyone interested in following along with creation and illustration process, and/or for claiming these reward decks when they are ready next June (or just supporting a small creator), new members are always appreciated and shown a warm welcome!

I love the video's you are making to show the crafting of your court cards, they really show how much detail and attention goes into your work. I pulled out a patron deck the other day to play with my sons, who are early teen / pre teen age and love Gio's work the most...all the foil and shine (which I also greatly enjoy).

I was surprised how much they connected with the deck, and the artwork. "Very classy dad, love the colours and the way the pips are shaded" was the feedback. Couldnt agree more!
