I ended up with a Jan Ulrich Bianchi - I would never have a Ferrari car so I indulged in a top class bicycle in the 90's

Re: Honeybees and other favourites
Sorry to hear about the fires. Damn.
We used to pile into a friend's car and drive 90 minutes to the one shop where we lived that had them just to look at all the Italian and French bikes under one roof. Pictured: Confente, Colnago, and DeRosa.

Back to my latest read, I should point out that I am not really that Bee crazy and did not initially seek the book out. I happened to borrow a book of hers called The Last Wild Horses after which I discovered that she is better known for the Bee book

Re: [Honeybee] Honeybees and other favourites
Kubik could be considered marked as there are 13 different backs - one for each rank.
I worked out a system for them
eg the Threes have a green square and a pink square in diagonal corners
The card shown on the tuck would be an Ace as it has 2 yellow corners on the short side
(2 yellow corners diagonally would mean a 2)

The reverse side the QOD does not look as happy. She must be the misses - maybe she does not agree that it was a bargain. I wonder whether she would change her name to Quintessa?

Visiting Horsham town last week, I saw an 'Employing Now' sign in the window. The Honeybee may have to come out of retirement just to get a BuzzTech worker's shirt - they look pretty cool

I have become fascinated by the Seigaiha pattern
What is not to like about 'waves of the blue sea'
And I suppose it is not dissimilar to honeycomb pattern

Re: [Honeybee] Honeybees and other favourites
Rightio I am going to celebrate the return of my internet connection with some pics and quizzes about the Fontaine Windows deck
It is a novelty deck that tickled my fancy. If you don't know it, the fontaine f's are windows which allow you to see through the card to their faces. The top pic shows two examples. If you analyse it carefully you will notice that when you are looking at the JoC through the window 'from the other side' - he is now facing left not right.
Zach has done this for all the Courts except the JoS which he seems to have forgotten to reverse (attached below too). You have to have his imagination because we know that with the front facing courts, if we were really viewing them from the back - we would be looking at the back of their heads LOL
For the rest of the week (internet willing
) I am going to post a couple of more pics as quizzes

Re: [Honeybee] Honeybees and other favourites
Here is your first Fontaine Windows quiz
Remembering that the f's are windows, What is the Best Possible Poker Hand that this pic could be (Be specific)
First attempt Brainpower only
Second attempt Deck in hand (any Traditional deck will do)
DON'T POST ANSWERS so that we give others time to try - I will post the answer tomorrow along with the next quiz

Re: [Honeybee] Honeybees and other favourites
With those 'windows' showing nothing but white, they can only be fours or sixes so the best poker hand that the pic could be is 4 sixes.
Today's quiz - once again, first off, try doing it without a deck in hand. What are these three cards:

Re: [Honeybee] Honeybees and other favourites
Not this time G but talking traditional decks with standard courts - we have all probably seen an 8 pattern with no pips in the middle but I don't know whether I have one (I have just checked a few)
EDIT: found one
NEW QUIZ 3: Can anybody name a well known deck with standard courts that has Eights with only 2 columns of pips
(For my Quiz 1, I should probably have said Bicycle design)

Here is the answer to the Quiz 2 picture
Tomorrow I will post the deck I found that has only 2 columns of pips for the 8's

The deck I found that has an empty middle is one that many of you will have. It is a custom deck that is nevertheless traditional as its name implies

I have always been attracted to the space theme of Orbits
I have just added this Orbit 8 Parallel edn to my collection for it best represents how I imagine space
(I only have Orbits 4-8)

Re: [Honeybee] Honeybees and other favourites
I just received this set of 4 Austrian stamp kits which I ordered on the WOPA site
They were released in 2024 to celebrate 200yrs of Piatnik
It was the actual kit packet that attracted me
Each kit contains 5 cards. If you look closely at my pic you will see the centre of the cards are perforated and I think if you release the centre of the Aces - they are legitimate stamps
The Kit packets/tucks and cards inside are bridge size
Only containing 5 cards each, the tucks are very thin and I can fit all 4 kits in a Carat Case for display
By adding an additional cheap Austrian stamp to my cart, I got free postage
All up they cost me less than £20 and make a nice display
Here is the link to WOPA
https://www.wopa-plus.com/en/stamps/product/&pid=89855
ps To keep the tucks of the 2 kits I opened as intact as possible, I did not tear off the opening strip but instead only broke it down one side

Re: [Honeybee] Honeybees and other favourites
I now see that Roddy Somerville has done an excellent article on this stamp release at WOPC
https://www.wopc.co.uk/austria/piatnik/ ... nniversary
If you use the link to the article's link to the book and go back one picture, you will also see the kits/tucks
Does anybody know anything about the book? I cannot find it anywhere
