online rendering for Pure Code cards

Unread post by dberg369 »

Thanks for your support so far on this ultra-minimalist deck I've created.

It's not very playable - more collectable and a cool design concept.

PLUS
I've been hard at work adding something very cool (and nerdy) which I think completes the card's concept rather neatly.

It's a website that takes the card's code and spits out a visual of the card...

The card's code can be typed in manually, or if you photograph the card - it will enter the code for you to save you time.

Hope you guys like it? Any questions, just ask.

They launch soon on Kickstarter - do sign up for free launch alerts here if you're interested: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/be ... ying-cards

And I'm totally open to feedback - specifically around the details and finishing (the design is somewhat locked).

I've made plenty of things but this is my first deck of cards and I would love any feedback to help make sure these hit the community's criteria as much as possible (despite being more arty/collectable than actually playable).

Thanks gang.

Very interesting concept - I love seeing creativity like this within the card community. Because this will not be easily playable, I think the focus on collectors is a good idea. I would urge you to review the projects by Pocket Aces. While their designs are more focused on playability, they do have a minimalist approach to their designs. I believe their appeal to collectors is the top-shelf foiling and features they utilize.

If I were to consider this deck for my own collection, I would need to see embossing/foils on the tuck and some foiling on the cards to help them shine a bit while not sacrificing the minimalism. You might consider a limited gilded edition as well. Just some ideas to catch the attention of the collectors who will be looking for something magical to offset the playability issue.

Thanks for sharing this and I look forward to following this project!

Thanks so much for your feedback and guidance - that's really appreciated.
I've just checked out Pocket Aces - GREAT reference. - really nice designs.

I can totally see how foiling can help make something that's not playable feel more collectable.

I love the idea of gilded edges too, maybe in black.

I'm going to investigate all these options and build them into the Kickstarter.
Thanks again for your response

I think black edge printing might be an option too
I am not sold on foiling but I could imagine embossing improving that tuck

just following up....

So whilst the boxes are of course foilable/embosable - I'll defo offer that...

I'm just exploring foiling on the cards but it's a tricky one.

Due to their design, I would have to pick one of the three colours to foil on each card (white, green or orange). My fear is that it might look a bit strange if only one colour is foiled. Due to the font size and the foiling process having a tiny degree of error, it might not align perfectly with the other text. It's frustrating as I love the idea of foiling, I'm just not sure if it can work on this specific design but I'm open to suggestions.

Whilst card gilding is doable, does it suffice?
I wonder if there's any other finishes or styles on the cards that would add value to you as a collector?
