Both. I have some in Carat Cases and some in the baggies. I remember when they were not shipped in bags. My first one in bags were removed. Now, I keep some in bags, but typically have one opened and opened. I only suffer in silence when I can't find stuff, which is far too often.

That last post I see on it says cutting and shipping ‘early Sept’. So maybe soon? Or not… I honestly don’t know why he puts dates to anything.

I actually enjoy the bags but it seems he's only using them for oversized tuck boxes (Redemption decks) that do not fit into the cellophane machine. I open all my decks, but for duplicates, I do store them separately, upright in boxes.

He is actually going to be reprinting once more as the warping issue did not go away with time, making the decks a challenge to cut. Final ship date TBD.

How did you find out about the latest delay? I didnt see any posts/comments about in Patreon. Was it on Instagram? I quit using the platform a while back so wondering if it was there.

This is the latest update he just emailed out.

"Hi, all!

This is the first of a series of weekly updates regarding the progress of the deck. Before I continue, I want to repeat that MYSTERY III is the absolutely most difficult thing I've ever attempted to make, and probably a dead end in the amount of detail that can be printed using hot foil.

During the various prints I did, I can say that we perfected the process, gradually spotting and eliminating all the factors that can possibly cause problems in printing. Every print I did was considerably better than the previous one and I am very happy with what we achieved as an aesthetic result.
However, as you remember, the last problem I had to solve was that the printed sheets (which are quite long) due to the pressure needed for such an extensive foil coverage, got very wavy. I knew from the previous (TEST) print that this would cause problems in cutting, so we let the sheets to rest under pressure during the August printer's closure.

Although they were indeed slightly improved, the first cut we did showed that the decks cannot be cut properly.

Thankfully, this time I was proactive: I had ordered and did another print back in late July, fearing that we might have this problem. This time I printed in small sheets of 9 cards each so that there would be no distortion and cutting issues. We worked silently on that new print and now I can say that:

1) It's the best of all the print runs we did. Truly spectacular!

2) Printing is very close to be finished: It needs about 6 full days of work.

After that, we will varnish and do the final cut of the decks. That's why I said I'll be regularly updating you, actually every Friday night (Central European Time). I hope it won't take more than another 2 updates until I am able to announce shipping, but in any case, you'll be in the loop!
The current print will be scrapped. I will probably try to cut by hand about 100 decks just for the record, and since I made a few more changes in the artwork, some of you may want to have this take, too. I'll let you know if and when I do it. It's work for prisoners, anyway.
We also may offer a few uncuts of this edition as they're so beautiful...
So, that's all for now. See you next Friday with more news.
Thank you so much,

Lotrek"

Hello,

I have several questions about these Lotrek decks, you might be able to help:
  • What's the difference between Mystery Crafts and Redemption Stories VIII Mystery III Craft Edition?
  • How many decks of each edition were printed?
  • Are they numbered, is the deck number written on the bottom of the tuck box?

Thanks :)

kevork (above post) documents the Lotrek releases and graciously makes the list available in the link in his signature. The Redemption series was started as a perk/apology for the delays in delivering the Year 1 Patreon awards. In some cases, the Redemption deck was unique and sometimes it was a gift deck to patrons that was also sold outside of Redemption. I haven't opened my Redemption deck, but my recollection is it is the same as Mystery Craft. Ill add the the Redemption tucks are overboxes for the deck tuck. Meaning, if you open the Redemption tuck, the Mystery Craft tuck is inside.

The number on the Redemption tuck is the referencing just that subgroup of the Mystery Craft Release. I believe full run was 750. Someone please correct if I am misremembering

It's the same deck. Mystery III (now known as Rubiyat) has several versions available:

- Mystery III Craft Edition (aka Redemption Stories VIII)
- Qalif (I consider it part of the same series but others may not)
- Rubiyat Test Print
- Rubiyat (official version - still being printed)
- Rubiyat Players Deluxe edition (not sure of the print status)

aside from confirmed versions, there are a few versions that may be available in the future but haven't been confirmed or made available as of yet:

- Rubiyat player's edition (without the fancy tuck)
- roughly 100 copies of the second test print of Rubiyat with slightly modified art

Re: OATH'S PATREON -details

Unread post by kevork »

We had a series of emails from Lotrek today so I wanted to summarize the details for everyone:

MYSTERY III
  • Lotrek states that through Mystery III (RUBAIYAT) he has improved on speed and accuracy with registration, color consistency, etc. which will benefit printing rewards for Year 2 and onward
  • As I had mentioned previously, another reprint was needed due to the paper warping making it hard to cut
  • 3 more working days remain to complete printing and then the decks go to varnishing and cutting
RUBAIYAT Deluxe Players
  • The idea Lotrek had for the deluxe tuck is proving to be difficult for his tuck makers resulting in more time needed, however he assures they are turning out to be very beautiful
GOLDEN RULE Red edition
  • This is a deck that has already been printed and completed a few days ago. These were designed for the first Golden Rule red tucks he had made but never used.
  • The deck will have some changes in the artwork, especially the pips which became somewhat simpler and more player-friendly. Lotrek also added a discrete motif at the background and also made the deck full bleed.
  • About 650 decks were printed and will go live September 27th at 3pm UTC. A notification will be sent prior to the sale.

IMG_0225.jpeg

CODEX Kickstarter
  • Timeline has now shifted to early November. Lotrek states this is a very special project to him so the hesitation to launch is strong.
  • The artwork is almost completed and Lotrek wants to post printed samples prior to launching while he continues to tweak details.
  • The whole production -except for the "Signature" Edition- will be executed by WJPC in China.
Patreon
  • Ideas about the future of Patreon will be provided in a subsequent post.

Nice summary kevork. I hope (although doubt) I'll be able to get just the signature codex. Don't really care for standard wjpc decks if I already get the signature edition.

Also did anyone notice how Lotrek Patreon posts always have a cliffhanger at the end to tease the next Patreon post.

Maybe Lotrek should do bust size courts for a deck one day (like Lorenzo did for his Solitaire 17)

About 650 Golden Rule Red decks were printed. I just checked his shop and it says 598 decks are still available. Has only about 50 decks been sold? I find that hard to believe. Or maybe the remaining inventory on the page is not accurate? I did not check at the start when they first were available. Maybe it has said 598 the entire time.

I don't see how those pips are more player friendly, but I wouldn't use a Lotrek deck for gameplay.

I'm sitting out any Lotrek product until I get what I've already paid for.

Yes to golden rule year 2 and he's not doing the year decks until the mystery 3 deck is done since I think he's using the same print shop for them.

It is, but no idea if it's done. Year 2 also includes a Royal Patrons deck. If memory serves, Golden Rule was completed but Royal Patrons was yet to be finished. But the last update on Y2 was quite awhile ago so Im not sure. Im resigned to 'it comes when it comes' but I do have a measure of frustration with the very little info we get on where things are at for the Patreon decks. At one point it sounded like he was empathetic to patron frustration with the lack of info and he had said he would try to provide more regular updates. He has been better when it comes to Mystery 3, but it's like he completely forgets older commitments. Maybe because there is literally no work happening so nothing to say - but have no idea.

Around this time last year, he said we were suppose to see Y1-Y4 rolled out over the next 12 months or so - roughly every 3 months. Y1 came and then crickets aside from his mentioning recently that Mystery 3 is holding up Y2. No idea about Y3-Y4. He has done a good job of explaining the uncertainly of his work due to all the experimentation and that has helped me to a degree with patience, but I am a bit frustrated with promises made and broken when it comes to just letting us know what is going on. However, there is time to promote and push a new release.

It is what is, I suppose, but needed to vent - again. ha ha

Im passing on this release as well. Having a hard time convincing myself to buy new stuff when the old stuff is still pending and this one isn't giving me FOMO feelings. ;)

Update: Looking up something else, I came across Patreon post I either missed or forgot from early August. In it, he states that Golden Rule needs to be reprinted due to an issue with the plates caught late. Unclear on whether Royal Patrons is done or still needs to be printed. All this pending the completion of Mystery.

A few cards didn't have proper registration on the borders due to the plates not being cut properly. He's also darkening the blue on the backs. This is how we ended up with Golden Rule Patreon Test Edition.

We have not had any information on Royal Patrons but there's nothing to indicate it's been printed. From what he has told me, it'll be a foiled deck similar to Golden Oath. I'm unsure if that means there will not be any ink involved. I await patiently.

He sent an update in response. Since he technically doesn't have an active paid Patreon, this feels okay to post:

Update yesterday from Lotrek regarding Mystery 3, for those that don't receive it.

"Hi, all!

Not a Friday night production update for a good reason:

Last Friday I already knew that we would have a little delay of 2-3 days. So, in order to avoid multiple updates, I'm telling you now:
As of yesterday, printing for the final take on the MYSTERY III deck is OVER!

Not only is it over but it's also the most spectacular deck that I've ever printed. Extremely happy with the outcome and so glad I did it, even though the additional delay has driven us (you and me) crazy!

Next step is varnishing and it will take a few more days. We will skip this Friday's update as it's in 2 days and I won't have anything to announce. Varnishing is scheduled for next week.
Happy, happy, happy!

Thank you so much,
Lotrek"
