Guess That Deck!: A Card Back Challenge Game 🃏

Hey fellow collectors, cardists and mystery solvers!

Let’s play a little game. It’s simple and addictively fun:

STEP 1: Someone posts a picture of the back design of a playing card (preferably one that doesn’t instantly give it away).
STEP 2: Others reply with their guess for the name of the deck.
STEP 3: The original poster confirms when someone gets it right or drops hints if we’re stumped.
STEP 4: The person who guessed correctly gets to post the next card back!

Let’s test each other’s knowledge and show off our collections a bit while we’re at it. This is about fun not flexing, so feel free to post obscure indie decks or classics. Just make sure the back design is clearly visible.

You really have started with an easy one (good marketing) as he has done over a dozen color variations of this one and is about to launch a gold foil edition that looks classy. For some reason I am not privy to, he is not popular on this forum - maybe it is doing a dozen color variations (but plenty seem to do that)

The add-on deck for this coming KS is the above deck with actual gold foil

I think I would rather know why he is disliked, I was a patreon for just a year but I found it was not my cup of tea (so I do have my own theories on this)

I'm not even aware of him as a deck producer/designer. What makes you think he is disliked? Maybe it passed me by.

Yeah I guess since the decks are really not to my style I just haven't really registered him.

Cute! Good choice G as Google Lens doesn't even supply the answer but it does reveal that the image is 145yrs old.

Didn’t actually realize how hard a deck it was - thought I had posted it in “show us your cards” but I was mistaken

here is a crop from a face side - I will include one image per day until the game is given away



It does have a rather recognizable face - here is the tight crop…

Not easy to find, but I have verified pics are on the net for the faces - if you know what to look for…

Here is one hint, if you are a fan of old cards you have likely seen these at some point - they are not obscure (though this particular version of the faces were only made for 4 years)

All I can guess is a Dougherty Great Mogul deck, perhaps manufactured for a Boston restaurant?

Continuing with antique ones.
If my info is correct this back was used exclusively for the pattern and vintage collectors most likely ran across a pic of them at some point or even have it in their collection.

If needed, I'll start giving hints as well

It's neither of them. And also not from Austria or France at all.

If no other guesses come up by tomorrow, I'll post the country and a peak of a face card.
