If this isn’t an OceanLab collab, I’m going to be disappointed.

Re: Sirens of the Sea (Jody Eklund)
Hey it's time for another Kickstarter! It's been about two years since I have done a new deck. Been working on the artwork for that long. There's been alot of reworking and tweaking the artwork for this one. I hope you all like it.
On Tuesday, February 4 @12 noon (EST) I will be launching Sirens of the Sea. Hope to see you all there. Be sure to follow the Pre-Launch page to get a launch notification: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/do ... ying-cards

I wonder if there has been any Angel Back inspiration there with the backs

Hey
, you can't just drop that photo without giving a tad more info about the deck the back belongs to
.
Nice offering from Jody. I'm kinda intrigued. Thanks for sharing.

Re: Sirens of the Sea (Jody Eklund)
It is a USPC Squeezers Angel Back 2010 that I recently bought from Henry
I guess you would call it a re-release. The Angel Back is No.3 in Mrs Robinson's Bicycle Brand playing cards book
This variant was by the NYCC
Joseph Pierson says "The Angel back, in all of its iterations, was well loved in the 1880’s and 1890’s."

Thanks mate. I didn't know USPC had re-released them this century

Re: Sirens of the Sea (Jody Eklund)
It was about time Ariel and Blackbeard went face to face in a deck of cards.
Aces are black blobs while courts are colorful?
Hopefully those renders are from two different deck variants.

It wouldn't be the first time that Jody has borrowed design elements from other people.

Re: Sirens of the Sea (Jody Eklund)
I can see what Wonderful is referring to. The Aces (far from being blobs however) are a different style from the Courts. I like both but find the Aces match the map backdrop while the Courts match the card backs better

Re: Sirens of the Sea (Jody Eklund)
The project seems alright to me. Will there be multiple variants?

Chuqii has quite a bit of info about them, half way down pg19 of his threadHarvonsgard wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2025 1:45 am Thanks mate. I didn't know USPC had re-released them this century.

Re: Sirens of the Sea (Jody Eklund)
The project mentions ´the lore and story´ but it seems we will have to imagine everything from the court illustrations ourselves.
I see a creative tuck edition + two overly simplified tuck cases for those who are into design minimalism.
Unfortunately the black aces and colorful courts come hand in hand as the cards are identical in all three editions.

Already funded! Once I would have snapped these up but now I am far more discerning ie running out of drawer space and the Pirate theme was always going to be hard to sell to me (I am not sure why I have never even liked Pirate movies)

Re: Sirens of the Sea (Jody Eklund)
I think I might be out on this one. I kinda like the tuck and the card backs, but I'm iffy on the art. That main mermaid image on the tuck and joker has a bit of a Rob Liefield Captain America thing going on too.

Re: Sirens of the Sea (Jody Eklund)
The artwork does seem a bit disjointed stylistically. So I'm honestly not sure yet.

Hmmm, looking at the campaign description page, again and again...
I think there's something suspicious... as if.... like I think I've seen in before.... maybe it's de ja vu or something....
Probably didn't matter: currently on board, but leaning towards the end of the plank ready to walk it should I save my doubloons for the other deserving campaigns
