I have yet to watch it. Kinda pussyfooting around it since none of the shows have been that great, and I have been skipping shit every now and then. I'll check it out eventually; Maybe when the season is fully available.

Yesterday, I got my tickets for Multiverse of Madness on May 5th @ 7:00 PM, and May 7th @ 6:00 PM.
I'm honestly more skeptical than hyped, though, considering that they reduced the runtime by 22 minutes recently after very late re-shoots.

Re: Comics and Superhero movies
Here's hoping it'll end up more like SM:NWH reshoots and editing vs Suicide Squad reshoots and editing. Will be sad to see Dr Strange end up like Morbius as his character was setup rather well, bringing him from a C lister in the comics world to a B+ lister. Catching up the recent Dr Strange comics, Marvel's also doing well by Strange compared to the past.

Re: Comics and Superhero movies
I was going to argue this, because I've always felt like Marvel treated Strange like an A-list character, but in the real world yeah he was a C-list name to general audiences.

Re: Comics and Superhero movies
That's probably because they have pushed up Strange's profile in the comics the last 10 yrs , probably in preparation for his movie and his prominence in the 4th phase. He is such a great character in the right hands. I loved the Ditko years which launched Dr Strange. Liked how they finally restored his hands a few yrs back and showed how it affected his spellcasting. His death issue and the aftermath was great as well, showing just how impt he was as sorcerer supreme and the impact of his absence. Let's see how they handle his eventual return.theCapraAegagrus wrote: ↑Tue Apr 12, 2022 10:26 amI was going to argue this, because I've always felt like Marvel treated Strange like an A-list character, but in the real world yeah he was a C-list name to general audiences.

Re: Comics and Superhero movies
So...
I've watched all 3 episodes of Moon Knight. It's okay, so far, but it definitely had the best pilot of any MCU show. That being said...
I watched the Watchmen HBO series over the past week or so, and it is easily the best comic book TV series that I have watched, and beyond that is one of the best TV shows I have ever watched. Because of this, I have also decided that I like the comic book ending more than the movie. IIRC, Episodes #4 and #6 were both a tad slow, but the rest of the series was seemingly-flawless.
How is it that Marvel Studios releases 5 shows with big budgets, and they're all too long at just about 6 episodes each, while Watchmen is 9 episodes long and nearly perfect? Get some damn quality screenwriters, Marvel!

Boring AF to me. Gives me almost no reason to be interested in the movie. The actual trailer needs to be better.

Re: Comics and Superhero movies
The message I got from the teaser: "This is a Marvel Studios movie directed by Taika Waititi (that includes Natalie Portman as Thor)." Which is all information that I already knew. I personally need something to convince me to buy tickets, and those 2 elements alone are simply not enough for me anymore.EvilDuncan wrote: ↑Wed Apr 20, 2022 7:44 amWeird. I like Emergency Awesome's breakdown videos on trailers and such. There's a lot in this teaser without revealing too much:
I'm also hyped. Almost as much as for Dr. Strange MoM.

Re: Comics and Superhero movies
I think the real message of this teaser (aside from Taika and NP) is that this movie (outside of the main conflict) is about Thor searching for his place in the world after everything that has happened to him and his people. He isn't the leader of his people and seems like he's just drifting aimlessly while he's with the Guardians.
Combine that with the teasing of new gods/pantheons and worlds, and you've got an intriguing sounding movie for me.
But really, they had me at the first word of the title, so I didn't really need to be convinced.

I care for three franchises when it comes to Marvel: Deadpool, Dr.Strange and Guardians of the Galaxy ergo they had me at Starlord. What they need to sell me is if the movie will hype me enough to get this:

Re: Comics and Superhero movies
Woah, that's an awesome set. Love the goats and the Korg mini-fig. From the pics, I wouldn't care if the movie is good , having a viking boat that's pulled by 2 giant goats with Thor is enough for me!
As for the trailer itself, it's a teaser. Will have to see what else they'll show. Gorr is still unseen for now. From the past trailers, Marvel only actually shows stuff mainly from the first 1/3 of the movie. Having read the God-butcher arc, I'm curious to see how they'll carry it out on the big screen.

I'm still peeved at how disrespected Thor and Co. were in Ragnarok. It's a great movie, but I'm tired of Marvel turning everyone into Deadpool.

I'm seeing it on Friday. Super excited. Only watched the first trailer and took a look at the social media reactions from the premier last night. They seem generally positive, so I think I'll be happy with it.

Re: Comics and Superhero movies
I'm waiting for my oldest to return from college, which he will at the end of *next* week, and the kids and I will all go see it -- probably in IMAX (genuine IMAX, not this "IMAX experience" crap) the weekend of the 13th. So... I'll be skipping this topic on the forum after it comes out and before I see it.

Re: Comics and Superhero movies
Man, we don't even go to IMAX anymore. Too expensive and often the sound is turned up too high and we need some earplugs (especially for someone like me whose tinnitus would be blaring afterwards). We go to the Regal Cinebarre near us. Normal prices, good volume level, better seats that recline, and food served at your seat! Best theater experience I've ever had.
The one movie I might do IMAX for is Avatar 2. The first one was fantastic in IMAX and I'm sure the follow-ups will be too.

Didn't sleep yesterday and decided to watch Batman instead. Very positive experience. Expected nothing, as I saw nothing from the movie, besides Lego sets in the catalogue and now I feel like it's better than the Dark Knight Rises.

Re: Comics and Superhero movies
This is definitely the better movie. In fact, I think The Batman is probably the best "Batman" movie we've ever gotten. I think all the others mostly focus on Bruce Wayne who becomes Batman at night. This one focuses on Batman as the main character, even when he's not in costume. Seemed like a good adaptation of the character.
TDKR is definitely up there. It's definitely a better Batman movie than The Dark Knight, mostly because I feel TDK isn't a Batman movie, just a movie with Batman in it.

True, but based on how it ended and the overall reception, I feel like there has to be another season (maybe a Moon Knight movie, but idk). There's too much left to explore.

Re: Comics and Superhero movies
Interesting. My youngest agrees with y'all that The Batman is better than The Dark Knight. I'm still on the fence with regard to all that, and I'll have to watch the Pattinson movie again.
But, I gotta say, I've never heard anyone compare The Dark Knight Rises favorably to any of the other "good" Batman movies. I do like your reasoning quite a bit, and I think that's one reason why TB might be better than TDK, or even why Batman Begins is better than TDK. TDKR had a lot of great scenes, but on the whole, there were simply wayyy too many moments in the movie where I got bumped out of the story because, well, things just don't work like that.
As in: "The cartilage in your knee is almost gone." So, Bruce Wayne essentially invents a knee brace, and now everything's fine? Knees don't work like that. Bane breaks Batman's spine, and then some guy is able to fix it with, what, a rope and some gravity for the assist? Spines don't work like that. A bunch of criminals break into the stock exchange in Gotham and use a computer to transfer Bruce Wayne's wealth to somewhere else and now he's completely broke? And nobody can do anything about it? The Stock Exchange and financial crime doesn't work like that. The police captain calls in every single cop, including the off-duty cops, and sends them all underground? Police forces don't work like that.
There are a lot of things I love about the movie, but yeah... in my opinion. the whole was always less than the sum of its parts, because there were just too many things like that to interrupt my suspension of disbelief.
(Obviously, your mileage varies; I'm not saying you're wrong for liking it, I'm just presenting a differing opinion.

Re: Comics and Superhero movies
If someone thinks that The Batman is better than The Dark Knight, that's a red flag. For me, it's not even close. The Batman only does 1 thing right (Batman) and pretty much ignores the importance of everything else. Batman mythology is more than just the character in the cape and cowl.
There's also the problem of trying to turn The Batman into Superman. Batman is not a symbol of hope; He's a symbol of fear. Superman is the one who inspires, and Batman is the one who does the dirty work. The ending was a huge disservice to the character considering how good the actual Batman stuff was throughout most of the movie. The ending to The Dark Knight was better AINEC.

Re: Comics and Superhero movies
That's certainly the point I agree with; the ending was somewhat unfitting to the rest. But since 95% were awesome I don't see it that bad. Overall I'm with EvilDuncan The Batman best Batman movie (minus the ending) and The Dark Knight (which I originally meant - not the Dark Knight Rises) is the best Joker movie
.
Does someone know what's up with that easter egg after the score?
As for Dr.Strange - just left the theatre - not sure if it was worth going to the movies. I like the first Dr. Strange more. But I'll let it sink in before carving that verdict into stone.

Re: Comics and Superhero movies
In my opinion the ending for TB was done that way is because he is just in his 2nd year of being TB and figuring things out and in that "figuring things out" phase and he himself says that vengeance won't change the past and that he has to become more... people need hope to know someone's out there for them. This is for those "good" people. For the Gotham criminals, they already know TB is out there and of course symbol that goes up in the sky to get them scared of TB.
