Geung Si Playing Cards (Eastern Vampire) Kickstarter

Honestly really love the artwork here, could definitely see myself owning a Twilight edition, the black of the Midnight doesn't really appeal to me.

Can anyone speak to the reliability of HypieLab?

Really like the concept and the two different versions, but I’m unfamiliar with the creators.

I like these, but I feel like they're just a lesser version of the Genso & Densho decks.

Interesting. I on the other hand like them more than Genso and Densho!

I guess "lesser" was a poor choice of words because it sounds a bit too general. I can absolutely see why someone would prefer these, particularly the courts. For me, the backs of both decks try to do something similar, and the Genso/Densho decks do it better imo.

They have 2 other completed campaigns, and from the comments on the campaigns it looks like neither have fulfilled yet. Personally, I'm steering clear of this one.

I have pledged for their previous 2 campaigns. I have received the rewards for one, and for the other they have been providing updates and responding to comments.

They seem to be on the up-and-up. I am backing with a fair amount of confidence.

My biggest reservation is that they are starting a new campaign without fulfilling the last. They have posted pictures of their printing plates, uncuts, etc, and provided a timeline of fulfillment by September for their Parallel Universe campaign. But once again, they have not actually fulfilled it yet, so that could be considered a red flag for some.
This is me, though I really should update me.

Consider that a compliment.

Fun fact:

"Geung Si" is the direct transliteration of "殭屍" in Chinese, a crossover of zombie + vampire who wears Qing Dynasty's shroud and jumps around hunting humans in the middle of the night. There's a lot of Daoism (道教) and Feng Shui (風水) folk religious imagery in this deck, therefore.

Full Deck Scans:
Midnight - https://www.flickr.com/photos/167981955 ... 833606488/
Twilight - https://www.flickr.com/photos/167981955 ... 8846048567

Note: These cards have some of the deepest saturation i have seen on a deck of cards in a while. The blacks on the midnight arent thin, like on other decks. Plus, I love this style of artwork. Its nice and clean and detailed.

Hi All,

Not sure what is going on with these. Some backers apparently received them a month ago and others (including myself) have received nothing, not even a tracking number, and no reply to messages.

I''m wondering if there is a problem with the foiled tucks as, from what I have seen, only the Bicycle decks seem to be making an appearance on eBay & other websites.

Has anyone here received the Limited, foiled version of these yet?

I have not gotten a tracking number nor my decks. There are a lot of people stating the same thing on their KS comments. I hope I get them. I have also backed Western and Torpor. All at significant pledge levels. Gulp.

Thanks for letting me know.

I backed 2 of each plus added an additional mixed brick of Bicycle decks.

I haven't seen any of the Ltd decks anywhere so was thinking that might be the issue but if that isn't the case then god knows what the hold up is :?

I'm in the same boat as you guys.

Pledged for both Eastern and Western Vampires + Torpor, haven't heard anything. As per the comments, looks like the only ones who have received anything are those in Malaysia and select Asian countries. If Hypie flakes, this will be extra sour for me personally, as I expressed doubt about their ability to deliver before pledging. I hit the UC threads for their Eureka and Parallel Universe decks and heard that they were slow and unresponsive, but they ultimately delivered. I waited until the last day, mulling over whether I should trust them with my cash or not.

Please reward my trust.

Yes, please reward our trust.

I know the risk involved with KS and I knowingly (and probably stupidly) backed followup projects of theirs before fulfillment of earlier projects. I really like these decks and I just added up how much I pledged across all 3 campaigns. It will make me sick if I do not get these. Possibly a very expensive lesson learned. They are still updating the latter 2 projects. I contacted them about the first and never got a reply. Here are the most recent update.

Eastern - March 4, we are shipping. Apparently not to the majority of backers.

Western - April 12, decks to be completed by end of May

Torpor - April 12, decks to be completed by mid May

Finally, some communication. Needed to throw a digital fit, but they finally sent me my tracking info. They claim all the decks are on their way and my tracking confirms that for me, so I’m not as worried anymore.

New update: Eastern Vampires is set to begin fulfillment mid-June.

The previous one was delivered just late, not surprising this one was too, people got so freaked out on this.. I'm starting to notice backers for bike KS are quick to get angry and call scam (though I guess it's probably an easy target since so many people love collecting bikes)

I don't want to compare too much to Centurio, that's on a whole 'nother level, but the problem for me similarly boils down to communication.

Hypie logged on in early March to update, saying everything was being shipped. The problem? No further communication, no shipping notifications, no tracking numbers, just plain MIA. It took throwing a fit in the comments and almost 3 months to get an answer. Idk, that just doesn't sit right.

Communication (or lack of) is definitely the key issue here.
I also believe there is something going on behind the scenes that backers are unaware of.

In my case I first sent a PM to Hypielab on April 6th asking them for my tracking number after seeing that some backers had received their pledges 2-3 weeks prior. They responded on April 23rd saying that I would be receiving a tracking number soon from their US fulfilment partner.

Yesterday (23rd May - 1 Month later) they sent me a pm asking if I'd received my tracking number, which I still do not have.

I asked them if they could provide it and/or let me know when the decks were/would be shipped.

Their response: We'll check with Gambler's Warehouse.

Now it's back to waiting for their reply, and who knows how long this will take.

Luckily I didn't back their other campaigns and it's unlikely that I'll be backing any future ones :D

I did not back these as I was short on cash at the time but did grab a set of the craft editions on eBay. The art is so colorful and detailed. One of my favorite decks in my collection now. I hope you all get yours soon. I really think you will enjoy them. Can't wait to hear what you all think about them.
I haven't slept for ten days, because that would be too long.
