Hello everyone! We hope you’re doing well.
The community here has been great to us with our other projects (Hanami, Sensu, and Night Parade), so we wanted to share some images and discuss our plans and what we are working on. We have received a lot of great feedback in the past and look forward to hearing what you think.
Note: We are still working out all the details with the quotes, kickstarter, the new vat changes, making our final decisions, and all that fun stuff.
We are excited to share our latest hanafuda project with you, Koinobori.

Koinobori will come in two formats: Hanafuda and Fusion.
A poker-sized Fusion deck printed by EPCC at their Taiwan facility with Classic Finish.
A mini-sized Hanafuda deck printed by Panda GM on thick plastic stock! Durable, waterproof, and that satisfying ‘snap’ when you throw down those cards! (^~^) *Drool* lol
(Note: Panda describes them as ‘bank card thickness’)

The decks are full bleed and the months will connect.
Each month is a different color for easy identification.

We also created two new hanafuda games.
These will come as full-color booklets similar to the booklet that came with our Night Parade Deck.
1. Chaffs & Grains. A strategic precision bidding and trick-taking game for 2-4 players. (Up to 8 with a second deck.)
Inspired by a childhood favorite called Max. Our trump-based game was designed for hanafuda cards.
This game will come with the Fusion deck.
2. Capture the Flag. A fun twist on capture games for 2 players. Push your luck while fighting for control of the flags, but be careful, your captured cards aren’t safe from your opponent.
Inspired by Koi-koi. Our game has more focus on the push your luck elements and a more dynamic capture system.
This game will come with the Hanafuda deck.

What about the tuck?
For the plastic Hanafuda deck, we are planning for a nice two piece box.

For the Fusion deck we are currently planning for a sideways tuck with a holographic effect foil on a synthetic tuck stock. Colorful, shiny, and playful (below).

We were also thinking about an optional add-on for a cute drawstring koi pouch. (We are waiting on quotes to see how that would pan out.)

Koinobori Theme
Koinobori is a playful deck series that Antonietta was inspired to create in response to the trying times that the world is going through. A positive creative project to both lift her own spirits and to bring a smile to others.
The theme is koinobori. Koinobori are carp streamers/windsocks that are traditionally flown in Japan to celebrate Children’s Day. Why carp? Because they are strong willed and spirited fish.
Card Backs
We are still deciding on the card backs. Here are a few we are thinking about.
We are also wondering if the plastic hanafuda decks should have a textured back (like many hanafuda), however, we do not know if Panda has that ability.

What is a Fusion deck?
Since traditional hanafuda cards lack pips and indices, we designed our own hanafuda indices. We combined these indices with traditional hanafuda imagery and standard poker indices to create a multipurpose deck that could be used to play both Eastern and Western games. The Fusion deck is also a great way to learn and teach hanafuda.
We modified our Fusion indices.
If you are familiar with our previous Fusion decks, then you will notice that we simplified the Fusion indices a bit more.

What is Hanafuda?
Hanafuda (known in Korea as 'Hwatu') are floral-themed playing cards that are rich in symbolism and popular in Japan, Korea, and Hawaii. Hanafuda cards have 12 suits. Each suit is named for a month (e.g. June) and each month is represented by a flower (e.g. Peony).
Hanafuda can be used to play numerous games, including traditional classics such as Koi-Koi, Hachi-Hachi (88), Go-Stop, and many more.

When is the Kickstarter?
We have not yet set a date for the Kickstarter launch, but we will post an announcement here when the time comes. To ensure you don’t miss it, we encourage you to join our mailing list. (^_^)
We’ll post a preview link to the Kickstarter page once it is ready.
What about the Night Parade Word game?
If you followed our previous Night Parade project, you probably know that we are also working on a word game. We were originally planning on launching our word game next, but Covid delayed the testing phase, so we decided to move along with this hanafuda series first. (But don’t worry, it is coming!)
We’d love to hear what you think about our new Koinobori release.
Thank you for taking the time to read our post! (^_^)
We look forward to reading your feedback!
Jason & Antonietta
