Remember Archduke deck...Quantum grain finish....
This was the time when Legends and Expert PCC were babies. A deck named Archduke with an experimental finish called Quantum grain finish was giving a tough fight to Bikes. I remember a number of forums talking about the finish as well as the deck. The company tried their hand at Kickstarter supporting creators in printing their decks way back in 2012-13. A printing issue happened for one of the Kickstarter decks and they had to do multiple reprints bankrupting the printer, I could be wrong but this is what I remember. In 2013, I believe they closed the shop.
I am in touch with the guys again and they are coming back. I will be doing a deck printed through them based on an improved Quantum Grain finish. Let's see.

Sorry, not available in market as the company hasn't been trading since 2013 or so. But if you go to Portfolio 52, you might find someone willing to trade it. I have 4 decks with me and can send one to you for free but shipping cost from Melbourne to US will be ~$17 AUD for untracked and ~$27 for tracked service. If you are willing and unable to find the deck anywhere, please feel free to reach out to me.hsbc wrote:Archduke deck? What do they look like? Are there any for sale anywhere...?
Sounds interesting! Always excited to hear about new finishes

If you've still got one at the end of next week, I may take one; but talk to me next week.

Yes, that's the one. This retailer is the only one I believe with some inventory still left with them.Eric Lee wrote:Are these the same Archdukes being mentioned?

Re: Remember Archduke deck...Quantum grain finish....
I remember these very well. Back in the day when these first came out, there weren't many YouTube video reviewers out there so I was still doing a lot of written deck reviews. I guess my reviews caught the attention of whoever was the producer of these decks and they contacted me and asked if they could send me some decks for free so I could review them. I told them I generally didn't accept decks for free to maintain my objectivity, but I was curious about these because back then there weren't many printers that we hear of except for the USPCC and a crappy version of Carta Mundi. I knew these were from an unknown Indian printer so I told the guy I would be more than happy to do a review, but I warned him my reviews were more focused on the stock, finish, and handling more so than the artwork, and that I would be brutally honest. He responded that he would expect nothing less and sent me a pair.
I think ultimately there were only two decks that I knew of that came out of this Indian printer, the Archduke deck and another deck that I can't remember the name of but can picture it in my head, It was a white tuck and it featured an angel. Anyways, I was actually impressed with these decks. The card stock was thick and fairly stiff, almost like casino-grade Bee stock. The finish was pretty unique. The cards were not super slippery like a USPCC deck. When you fanned or spread them there was definitely some friction and resistance, similar to Lotrek's Arabesque Players Edition from KS. But despite this friction, the finish was consistent in that the cards spread very evenly. It really reminded me of a USPCC deck that had fanning powder applied to it, so the slip was more controlled but still even. I felt these decks were best for cardists who did primarily packet cut routines, but still incorporated fanning secondarily. They did have a strong chemical smell to them when you first opened up the deck, not very pleasant.

Re: Remember Archduke deck...Quantum grain finish....
Thank God....we are back.
UC was down and WHO also declared COVID-19 as a pandemic during the same time, it felt as if end of the world is coming soon.
Jokes aside, take care and stay safe everyone. Be kind. Love you all.
Just wanted to share that I have been able to tick off this from my bucket list.
Finally, I was able to get this prototype printed from the factory who produced Archduke on their legendary Quantum Grain finish (now called Linen Grain finish as the assets changed hands).
These are some pictures from the factory itself. Mythos will still be printed by Legends (for mass produced run) but I had always been looking to get at least a prototype printed on the same finish & happy to see that getting ticked off. I've not received the deck yet but the manager told me that the prototype sample came really well.
PS: This thread reminds me that your 2 Archduke decks are still there with me @Rousselle.
