In Kitsune, we continue to translate and transform the traditional Japanese tattoo art form of Wabori into playing card style, retaining as well as enhancing many of the interesting and delightful features we had in Sumi Playing Cards. The focus of Kitsune centers around the fox spirit, a staple in Japanese folklore. We scoured many different sources of folktales, stories and myths about fox spirits and selected a few well-known ones as sources of inspiration for the characters in the court cards. Kistune continues to serve as a homage to Wabori and faithfully represents the visual nuances and quality that is the hallmark of Japanese traditional tattoo once again, creating a visual playing card masterpiece like no other, a masterpiece that weaves fantastical stories of begone time with modern playing card aesthetics.

I like this series. I'm not in on the letter press tucks simply because of financial reasons but I'm in on the Bike decks. Even though $30 for the EB pair, shipped is pushing it I am a Bicycle sucker.

I was going to say that for my personal taste there is just a little too much going on, but I kinda like your description better.
Having said that, these usually have no problem funding and I wish them luck.
My OCD demands I collect them all, so my alternative is to just collect none. I am refusing to buy any multideck KS unless there is a legitimate reason for the multiple variations. I'm out.

Man, I don't know... the illustrations are all new, but they don't feel different enough from the first Sumi decks, at least not at first glance. Maybe I'll break mine out when I get home and reconsider, but at this point I can't see myself backing.
While not having the original Sumi decks, I find this set appealing not because of any new elements, but just the fact that this set has all the names of the characters written on the court cards. And as a Mandarin user, I could guarantee they did well in the calligraphy of those names.
At least this is the approvement that I see in this deck, otherwise everything else is simply a rendition of the former design for the most part.

I do not have the first Sumi set of decks, but I have wanted to get them and they are on the long list. I do like these and pledged for a 4 deck set. However, I may be dropping it down to get just the 2 craft box editions. I have 6 pledges at the moment and JR Invocation on Saturday will make it 7. I already dropped the De'vo pledge and may drop Primordial Greek. I would like to add the Ragnarok set to the Helheim pledge for $22 each as they go upwards of $60 each on Ebay.
KS had been pretty quiet for decks I liked but there is a flood now.

I need to pare my pledges on KS too. Too many, and I can’t miss out on the new Kings Wild on Saturday.
Agreed, playing card Kickstarter is close to back at full steam. I'm in for one of the letterpress decks. I don't have Sumi either - debating whether to add one on. Personally I like all the detail
I also see an airplane at first glance on the craft decks and the Sumi decks. Every single time.
I'm in for 2 regulars. Cards aside this is an example of a kickstarter that drives me crazy because they give too many options imho. But I do like the cards

I agree. I like all 4 tucks though! I feel like I have to have them all! I need to pare it down to just 2 though. I will most likely get the 2 craft box editions.
I live the options and variety, my wallet doesn't though.
I am excited about this launch. I think the craft decks look incredible and I have the chance to add the Grandmaster and Artist decks from the previous campaign at a lower cost with free shipping, so I am stoked to get in on the Sumi action!
"We have modified the tuck case design of the 2 Regular edition decks, specifically, having a background behind the Bicycle trademark logo. This is a new requirement by USPCC. We tried our best to accommodate the requirements while keeping the design intact. As you can check, some fine details of the tails of the nine-tailed fox are now being obscured."
What is wrong with USPCC ???? I don't like this change! what do you think ?
Is this change due to the merger and coming from Cartamundi or is this policy from just before the merger? Curious and it's a shame to take anything away from the artwork. Would hate to see it smaller than it has already become.
I don't believe it has anything to do with Cartamundi... Cartamundi's management takeover is expected to happen at least half a year later (see the merging news thread). So repeating what I've said in the update page comments: this makes me happier that Cartamundi acquired USPCC and will be taking over the management later... This regulation by USPCC is just absurd.
