Carrots X Fontaine V2

Unread post by RichK »

I don't know why I'm posting this crap but here goes. Crap away on it!

From Kardify:
This year, Zach Mueller has already released the Watermelon Fontaines for pre-order and is about to launch his second deck, the Carrots X Fontaine v2. The playful deck is a collaboration with Anwar Carrots (@carrotsbyanwarcarrots) and this time, sports a black colorway with subtle orange carrot images on the card backs with the iconic Fontaine 'f'.

However like previous collaboration deck releases, this will be in-store only at @virgilnormal on 12th January, 4157 Normal Ave, Los Angeles. Check out a few images of the deck below

Move on, nothing to see here.

I like it! .... Except for the "f"s......and maybe the carrots. And the black, definitely need to get rid of the black. But other than that - nice!

Please, don't encourage Zach! Next release you'll find is the Madison x Fontaine Blanks V2 . And it'll sell out in 0 minute just because it's soooo cooool as it's got , like, Madison and Zach collaborating on this amazing cool deck. This will change cardistry forever! The ultimate minimalist cardistry deck! And Zach will create new cardistry moves which can only be performed with this deck: The Blizzard, The Snow Angel, Snow Fall, Snow Flakes. Buy the tutorial package to save! :ugdance:

Seriously, though, that Joker Carrot fits the Fontaine deck so well! It looks rotten, just like the ideas Zach has on card design. However mad props for him going back to the well just to see how much $ he can milk from his fans before that runs dry. Even Apple couldn't keep going after riding on Jobs' ideas since he passed away.

Who needs to money when you can print Fontaines? Of course, how about increasing your creativity just slightly and exploit one of the past successes.

While TGW did manage to interest me enough to add some inexpensive NOC's to my collection when getting an order up to free shipping, I have yet to purchase any Fontaine decks in my card collection.

To be fair, Madison did come up with the Kittens, which was pretty cool, and Blanks as a dare. Magicians can find use for a deck of blanks.

Zach did show a little more creativity with the Carrots, by putting carrots on the backs and jokers and Guess with custom aces, jokers and colourful back . His Chinatown deck was probably the best of all the Fontaines , with completely handrawn courts and pips; but overpriced at $20. (After seeing what Lorenzo can do for USD20 with his HoRS Cartomancer deck and USD16 with Faro)

https://www.artofplay.com/products/font ... -market-ed

Sadly Chinatown was his high point and it's been mostly USD15 recolours. Way overpriced recycled crap, when Madison can do better at USD10.

As someone coming to the 'collectible decks' thing relatively late, can I just confirm that these guys originally found massive success with a deck with an 'F' on it, and now they've added carrots to it?

And they sold a lot?

Am I missing something? I feel like I've missed something.

EDIT and this is a version 2 of the carrot idea? Meaning that not only does a carrot-themed deck exist, but it was worth doing twice?

Sod it, scrap the folklore and magic our first deck is going to be about cabbage.

Vwuala!! You got your brand a hype deck!

Oh wait... you don't have a cardist on board... WRONG!

Well, you can't make that comparison because we ain't got like 200 million recolors and collabs of Pi.

The comic collecting bubble is about to pop for a 2nd time, too. Dealers hoarding Incredible Hulk 181s (despite high-grade having large census numbers). Those just looking for a payday are gonna be out BIG money real soon.

What's more fad than color-changes to ugly decks? Gilding! F&*k anyone who likes this 100% CRAP.

How these came to be:
Fontaine: "Guys, we're running out of colors and I need to stay relevant."
His PR guys: "I know! Let's gild some of your old crap."
Fontaine: "Brilliant!"

And now Kardify is exploring the possibility of silver gilded RipnDip?
https://www.instagram.com/p/BvAVi2tnR1f/

This gilded trend will be going down in flames pretty quick. A lot of people here are already losing interest in it.

Correct, but by my limited experience, we here at UC seems to be the ahead of the bell curve rather than the average. So we are exposed and burn through the trends just as it crests in general market.

Admittedly with the quality of designers and reviewers on UC, we are a very spoilt bunch. Any outsiders browsing through UC casually may think we're a bunch of arrogant snobbish art crtics; besides 2pc of course. He's a category on his own!

An excellent point. If most of the fanboys that buy this deck do any sort of XCM they're in for a surprise. True story, I've actually drawn blood trying to fool around with a gilded deck once. NOTE TO SELF: don't try the Leno Cut with these!

I got a gilded paper cut once. It's like getting a paper cut and splinter all-in-one!

Seriously, though, stop gilding the f&*king awful decks.

Things like KW Tally-Hos and Minty's deck just bleed elegance with gilding. These just look like pretentious high school goth douches with piercings in playing card form.
