I've noticed that several UC members often will buy a brick (or two) of a given deck of cards. I was wondering why? What do you do with all those decks. I can understand buying that many with the hopes of reselling them but surely not every release has a high resale value. I can also see cardists and magicians buying in bulk as they tend to be hard on cards. But, not every deck is suitable for those activities. So, I just wanted to pose a simple question:

If you buy bricks, why?

Well, why buy one when you can buy two or more? Seriously though, some like to have multiples just in case, or to give away as gifts. When I host my group's poker night I'll usually throw in a few decks for the winners or give away the ones that were used that night. Meaning it's good to have some extras.

In short, some to open and use, some to keep mint, some to sell, some to give away.

Some people also will use them to trade for other decks. I for one will sometimes sell some of my extras to help defer the costs of this addiction...err...hobby.

As a pauper, I rarely buy multiple decks. I have two Decks of Monarchs, and two Gold Dragon Backs (but one was an unexpected gift).

I've stocked up over the years because I enjoy using different decks (though I'm fairly strict in which ones I pick up), and I want to have them for years to come. With a brick or two of each (and quite a few decks to choose from) my stock will last for at least a decade or so.

With a few exceptions, the only decks I have more than 2 of are various Ohio-printed USPCC decks. They don't make 'em like they used to.
