So anyone know anything about this deck yet? Other than that it is coming this summer. For anyone unaware there was an ad card with the new Seasons decks that advertised this deck. Hopefully we find out more soon, can't wait!

Anything 3D-ish is good in my book. I heard a rumor about being somehow traditional. What is traditional today?

Traditional was just meant to say the style and presentation. The illustration style is going to be much more etched to be more representative of the time period - although I'll still give it some of my typical stylings and polish. The cards will also carry a bit more symbolic significance with them that was common back then.

Even if this was ugly, anything by my pal Mr. Chin gets my support.

And this is definitely not ugly.

Wow..... just wow. I'm in for at least a brick based on that QoD alone.

Let me just be terribly harsh on alex, simply because i know he can do better. I wish there was a little more character to that face of the queen, not sure if you know what i mean, right now it looks blank and emotionless

I think what's off isn't the face, but the fact that she is the one queen in the deck who isn't full royalty. We're used to pretty awesome headgarb on our court cards with beautiful crowns that actually balance out the faces quite a bit. But this is actually Robert Fitzwalte'rs wife, a baron's wife meaning that she didn't get a full crown although she does get a beautiful head covering.

That being said I took that feedback to shape the lips and eyebrows more to give a more playful expression. Any more changes started making these court cards more comical than I'd like.

I really like the faded design in the corners, very nice! On the other hand, I'd lose the antiquing I don't think it adds anything. Fake distressing always turns me off, I like to dirty the cards myself... The detail image in your last post is much more compelling w/o the dirt.

The Origins deck is a great example of a deck that would not have benefited from antiquing. But if your set on it, perhaps a uniform yellowing like on Uuusi Classic decks?

I must say I was perfectly happy with the original design of the QoD, but I have confidence that whatever changes you make are well justified, Alex. It's been a pleasure watching your work from the very first design pictures of the original Seasons decks to where you are now.

+1 for this

I also agree that distressing would take away from this deck rather than add to it.

Each suit represents a family or a side. This club maintains the flourishing ornamentation of the Magna Carta but hides within it the lion that represents the Angevin Empire (Royals side).

I thought a lot about texturing and this mock-up shows without to see more opinions. The distressed texture I was using was actually a direct pull from the real Magna Carta itself. I love the idea that these cards coming through as almost part of the Magna Carta at the time because it tells such a rich story. I'm still playing around but if I end up doing a texture it will be simpler and more uniform like the Pagan deck. Would love to hear any additional thoughts on light texture vs. no texture.

Absolutely beautiful.

perhaps an LE deck that is textured and a standard that is not?
