[nECr0MaNCeD] My meager collection

by nECr0MaNCeD
So roughly two months ago, at the ripe old age of 46, I caught the collecting bug. (Also the magic bug but that's a different story.) Feel free to skip the next part.

As I said I am 46 and have been a PC technician and all around hardware hacker for 30 plus years. My builds have won a contest or two and more than half of the builds purchased at my place of employment request my work. I am currently working on an Artisans themed case and build. I will post pics if/when it happens.

As for my small collection below. It is the fruit of two months collecting. Small compared to the rest of you folks but I am on my way. I have 18 decks coming Monday. Some Ellusionist stuff and My Seasons set as well as a First 100 Deco set (Signed). The last two will join my Federal 52 set as the highlights of my collection. Now if my wallet would stop smoking........

Last Friday's additions

I think everyone's collection starts off as meager nECr0MaNCeD, and fear not, your not alone in the "Ripe old age" department. I'm 49 and started roughly 6 months ago..........I still don't know what happened, lol

Very nice start to what I'm sure will be a growing collection :D

Welcome to the addiction. We'll all pray for your wallet! It normally does no good...

Thank you gentlemen.

Mike's thanks for the prayers but you're right. It doesn't help. I already have the next three paychecks budgeted and spent..... on cards. Go figure.

Sparkz... Nice to see someone who remembers the same bands and the same presidents... I love the card stands. Where did you get them and how much were they?

Holy crap! Really?!? You mean something associated with this addiction doesn't require a mortgage? Only problem is I am not sure if there is a Hobby Lobby in my area. Thanks for the heads up!

EDIT: I found a Hobby Lobby near me. Now what in the name of all that's holy are these things called?!? I just spent an hour looking through their web site.

You're 46? As a friend of mine used to say, I have shirts older than you. :D

Seriously though, I bought my first deck (in what later would become my collection) in 1968 - the year that you were born!

Of course, I think that many/most of the people who post here are in their twenties or thirties - So yes, you are probably one of the older posters here.

Nice start to your collection, by the way!

Thanks. 1967 actually. ;) I got 14 new additions yesterday, I just haven't taken pics yet.

Get that camera out! :)

Fourteen? And what did THAT set you back, if I may ask?

By the way, I just noticed your avatar and was wondering: Do you have any of the custom-courted Nightmare Before Christmas decks?

I have three different ones, IIRC. Hold a sec, I'll see if I can find one here somewhere...

ETA: I found the scans, but am not supposed to post them in this thread, so I posted them here instead:

Beautiful cards. You're lucky. I don't have any yet.

Actually it was 16. There were two stripper decks I opened. 14 went to the collection....... looking for the $%#^% camera

With shipping they set me back $154, not counting the stripper decks....

Now I can't find the blessed card reader....

Ahhh, here ya go

The two sets in the last pic, along with my Federal 52 branded set, are the crown jewels of my small collection. It's hard to make out but the Deco set are numbered 80/100...

Fourteen, for $154? That's $11.00 apiece, including shipping - not bad!!

Thanks for sharing the pics!

By the way, you might wish to ask a Mod or Admin to change the name/title of this Thread/Topic to "[nECr0MaNCeD] My meager collection", so it will meet the "Be sure to put your username in square brackets [] at the beginning of the title." suggestion for thread titles within the "Show Us Your Cards!" subforum.

I can see someone already did that. My most humble apologies and thanks to the mod who fixed this. Sorry I missed it.

You didn't request the change?

No worries, nECr0, I didn't even realize it was missing until RSL pointed it out.

I feel compelled to point out to you that, in these enlightened times, it is considered highly inappropriate to call someone "nECr0".

I believe that the current politically-correct term is "Breathing-challenged American".

I believe the proper PC term is "Pulse challenged"... but I like being PC as much as I like watered Scotch and ex-wives.....

Thanks for the correction!

I hate scotch and am not crazy about most water, so watered-down scotch (or Scotched-up water) sounds pretty bad to me.

I only have (and will only ever have) ONE ex-wife, but I like her just fine. I watched our three children come out of her, and was married to her for 23 years. She will ALWAYS have a place in my heart. (The feeling is NOT mutual, by the way: She recently told me, in an email: "I do not love you, I do not hate you. You are just a fact in my life.")

Ouch!

Ouch indeed. What a crappy thing to say.

Actually I hate scotch but it's a cool quote. On the rare occasions I drink it's Bombay Sapphire gin and Tonic water with a lime twist.

As for the ex-wives I have two. I doubt there will be a third as I doubt I could get approved for the financing.

Yeah. I've heard it said that the opposite of love is not hate, but indifference, which is evidently where she has me filed.

Well if it's any consolation, I am in the same boat with the second. The first hates me and that's just fine with me.... :D

You are most welcome. I'm buying a Seasons set this week to open. The federal 52s can still be found but grab em while you can. Prices are going up. The majority of my collection, the Ignite's included, are from Ellusionist and Theory11 and not terribly expensive. The Ignites do fan and spread beautifully I must say.

Not sure if you mean my collection (if so thanks!) or the thread. If you mean the thread I agree 150%. None of my friends or family share my love of playing cards and it's nice to show them off to people who appreciate them.

Then you have my most humble thanks sir. Got some stuff the other day including two rare decks from Lyle at T11 I will be taking pics of. Also I stopped at Rite Aid today and found two 4 packs of Bicycles. Two red and Two black. Here's the kicker. One pack had two black decks that said Rider Back on them and were made in Cincinnati. The other two black actually look grey/silver. I bought both. With my Rite Aid card I got all eight for $21 w/ tax. I'll be posting pics of them as well.

Anyone know why the two Blacks are different?

Here are the latest additions to the collection.

My Theory11 shipment

My Rite Aid find. I went to a different Rite Aid after I found the first two and they also had a set with Silverish blacks.

And finally, the two decks that Lyle from T11 was kind enough to send gratis.

If anyone has an answer about the difference between the two black decks I'd love to know.

Interesting decks. Have you found anything else? As I remember the black & silver versions were only available from magic shops. Likely a repro they has done to order by US PCC.
