I gotta think about this one for a bit. I really like it but 1 deck with shipping to the US is $41.

Ian's work is the top of the tree for me. I thought of getting a few but I am supposed to be cutting back so in the end I just bought a couple but tripled my spend by adding a couple of Great Parade Tarot as an add on. I have been resisting getting into tarot for a couple of years but I decided I simply must have these.
(I can always buy more A&M later)

NB In the past some collectors have held back because they wanted Ian to upsize his bridge decks well

KG, I suggest adding some more to your pledge - shipping is always murder if you buy singles

Always happy to see a new Ian Cumpstey deck!

So many new decks have fancy paper, foil, gilding/edge printing, transforming tucks, etc; to the point that the current trend is that what used to be additional bells and whistles are now becoming standard.

Ian's decks are a nice palate cleanser. Well-designed classic style decks will always have their place. I also appreciate Alex Haines trying to revive it as well. It's pity so few appreciate these type of card design.

I have a pretty varied collection but my faves are Randy, Ian, Jackson, UUSI, Meadowlark, Lorenzo, Daniel (mostly for his Orbit), Rick, Alex, Curtis, Fulton, Fontaine, Missing, Bicycle, Butterfly, some Lotrek and Gio, ....

That is a pretty impressive list of designers but apart from Lotrek (and I don't have his foils) there is not much glitter there - so who is actually producing glitter?

Thanks for the mentions dudes. Also, of course I backed this one - back every Ian deck on Kickstarter. Got to be done!

Gio's are often very shiny, but I really enjoy his style whether foiled or metallic. Lotrek's non-foiled decks are under rated I think, the Redemption Players have a beautiful tuck and the cards are elegant and intricate.

All those you list are great, UUSI, Meadowlark and S17 particularly, but I have a real soft spot for Alex's work from an aesthetic and playability perspective. I dont think many combine those two elements as well.

I love my favourite Gio's for their colour but I have not bought any TWI for a couple of years as they feel like 'more of the same'.
I think that has become the case with Lotrek: foil and more foil - move on!

Back to Ian's = elegant and the closest many of us get to purchasing cards that are 'historical'

I wasnt so sure on these, I saw the comments on another thread regarding the tarot and the availability of his other decks so thought I would have a look. The Liber Ludorum and Inglewood Hunting decks are really lovely. Another Kickstarter funded for the week.

I received my Ancient and Modern today
I love everything Ian does so I cannot be considered impartial
Not only are these Poker size - they are also much thicker stock.
0.325mm is thick. If you want slicker handling and are happy with Bridge size you may be better off going for the not dissimilar Shimmering Sevens which are only 0.285mm
Not only are the cards thicker but also the tucks - which is definitely an improvement

I was a bit disappointed in these. They handle very poorly.

A little thick? I was surprised that they are thicker than the Great Parade tarot (.305mm)
I don't find them that bad. I think they're better than my Medieval by Elephant - they were printed by Legend and the spiel said, "Thicker Robusto card stock for a genuine medieval feel." Maybe that is what Ian was going for
