[Dezza-G] My Collection, Almost 2 Years In

Hey everyone đź‘‹

I’m Eric Geeman, though most people know me as Dezza G. I’m based in Melbourne, Australia, and I’ve been collecting playing cards for about 18 months now—long enough to fall completely down the rabbit hole.

My main passion is luxury playing cards, with Ark Playing Cards, King Star Playing Cards, and Stockholm 17 sitting firmly at the top of my list. I love strong design, premium finishes, and decks that feel like art as much as they feel good in the hands.

I dabble in a bit of magic, enjoy some cardistry, but if I’m honest, the majority of my time (and money) goes into collecting. Always keen to learn, trade opinions, talk designers, and admire everyone else’s collections.

Looking forward to being part of the community and talking all things cards.

Here is my collection so far. With another 60 decks elsewhere (mostly Bicycle & T11) along with some of my recent mail days. (If the max limit allows)

Ayy, I'm glad to see you posting on here. You've had a similar rapid uptick in collecting - reminds me of me!

What are some of your favorites/standouts?

Stand outs…right now. Let’s see…my the time I finish this sentence, the list would have changed. But I digress.

King in Yellow series (Silent Epitaph, Hyades Shade) by King Star

Hello to you in Melbourne, from me in Melbourne.

Love your collection, some overlap with me, but I have only been collecting for about 6 months now, so perhaps a little behind you on the flight path. I have spend much of the last 6 months accelerating from a few bicycle and theory 11 decks to full blown back-filing of TWI, Oath, S17, JBP, KWP, some of the Ark decks and a range of others.

I have seen your posts on Facebook on DripDrop Sounds & Shufflecut52, nice to see another collector undaunted but the excruciating cost of shipping, taxes and low exchange rate in our little corner of the world.

:D I saw a prediction that the $A will improve dramatically v. the $US in 2026. Fingers crossed.

One can only hope...gosh remember when it was $1.20 for a brief moment! Now that would help your sub $100 limit immensely, you can buy all those shiny uber foiled trinket decks you have been denying yourself ;)

Grand Sale, Grand Sale, its Franco Cozzo time!

"you can buy all those shiny uber foiled trinket decks" - yeah, maybe they have prototypes that were done in B/W :D

Yes, living in Australia definately makes this hobby more expensive then it already is. The double tap on shipping and exchange rate (and at time import costs) can add $100-$150AUD depending on where you purchase from.

I started collecting Bicycle & T11 decks when I first started collecting and I have come to realise that they aren't really my cup of tea, so I've decided to do some culling. They are all opened decks, so I might just do a giveaway on Drip Drop and throw a sealed S17 deck in as a topper. So be on the look out in the coming weeks!

This is the monochrome/greyscale deck from Charmie Dreams latest Kickstarter, Phenex. Heat sensitive cards— the number cards all have a centre “black” circle, that when heated, turns red. In the Australian summer, I have absolutely no trouble activating the heat sensitivity with a simple finger rub, so it wasn’t a chore and the results were satisfying. However, in colder environments, it may take a little more effort and as a result, the effect may not be as pleasing.

I have experienced this in all of my collecting adventures: Barbie dolls, Tarot decks, and playing cards. Our taste changes over time, and sometimes we look at our early acquisitions and go, "What was I thinking!?" :)

A friend and fellow Barbie collector has this in her forum signature, and I try to live by it: "Collect what you love and you will love your collection".

Thanks Felicity, that certainly sounds much more elegant than my "Love, love, love" mantra (for buying)
