How important is cello wrap to you?

Question for the collectors: how would you feel about a deck that came standard without cello wrap? Would the presence of a seal be enough to make it feel "sealed" for you? Would it put you off of buying a deck you'd otherwise wanted?

I'm getting ready to release my second custom deck on Kickstarter in a few months. One of the things that struck me on my first project was how much plastic waste (packing materials, cello wrap, label backing paper, tape, etc) was involved. My eco-guilt was triggered hard; to this day, I can't look a sea turtle in the eye. Plus, I thought the unwrapped decks just looked nicer.

I'm considering producing my next deck without the cello wrap (assuming USPCC can accommodate the request) but I'm curious how important a piece of the total package it is to collectors, and if I'd be shooting myself in the foot as a creator by selling a naked deck.

I open all of my decks so I dislike seals and don't generally need cello wrap. It's main purpose for me is to protect the deck during shipping. As long as it arrives without damage no cello wrap is fine with me. There are plenty in the community that don't open decks though ( I'll never understand that), so it may reduce your consumer base significantly.

It is adding an unknown variable into the equation that is already a gamble, so while you can gather opinions it is just going to come down to risk tolerance vs desire to reduce cost or waste - there are bio degradable options that may be the safer, and the cost should be (hopefully) an insignificant factor.

I have to admit that I think I prefer it. I open one of all my decks but generally buy at least 2 of everything - the ones still in cello are clearly my 'reserve' decks. It is also part of the shipping material and although this is the area in which I think suppliers can improve, it is most important for a deck to be sent protected. I assume that cardboard and paper are environmentally preferrable to bubble wrap and foam beans

Ah, good thoughts; I'd mostly just been thinking about display, but it's kind of nerve racking to imagine what could happen to a deck in transit without the cello. I know biodegradable cello exists — I'll have to scope out if that could be an option.

I open all the things, but may be in the minority here. You will likely get a better response from a larger portion of the community if it has cellophane. It is wasteful, but some collectors will hesitate if it's missing.

I love cello. It helps protect the deck from unnecessary chafing due to movement during shipping or even storage. I also particularly love when they have the pull tab because I can tear the top part, open the deck, and keep the majority of the tuck still within cello to protect it. I am not a fan of seals because I cut through them. Even if I line up the cut to the curvature of the tuck cutout, it can mess with the aesthetics. Sticker seals on the bottom have been a creative way around this.

It's a similar vibe to Wicked Kingdom (intricate fantasy art!) but is kind of its own thing: http://www.reignofsin.com ...though I'm hoping to do a second run of Wicked Kingdom too!

The art has been finished for a few years, but life has been crazy so I haven't had a chance to do all the backend stuff for the Kickstarter. Fingers crossed for early 2026

Cellowrap is important to me over these points:

• It protects the deck's box from dust, at least
• It is a safe place for the salvaged seal (because sticking it inside the box won't cut it)
