(EDITED) Image code wasn’t working so I edited to show just links. Sorry. Maybe a mod can fix it?)
Hey everyone! I have so much I want to say and share with you guys! I’m going to start by simply showing what I’m working on currently and where I hope it will lead.
I’m developing art centered around hemophilia, a bleeding disorder, that I have. My goal is to create a series that will provide a platform for awareness, homage, support. It started as a playing card design and has evolved into many potential ideas. The deck is maybe 60% done. I’ll be launching an apparel series for it soon that I hope will help fund prototype for the cards and other opportunities to expand the series.

When approaching the art for this project I wanted to make sure I found a way to translate Hemophilia in a symbolic and personal way. The art not only reaches out to connect with others but it's coming from very personal experiences in my life and that is why I named it Memoir. My experiences have left me with scars and times of depression. I spent a lot of time thinking about what I've lost because of my condition. This project is about recognizing what it has given me.

THE BUTTERFLY's inspiration comes from the butterfly needle. This is a medical tool that Hemophiliacs use for infusions, often for the delivery of clotting factor. It's a lifeline, representing survival, treatment, and daily management. I like to call my butterfly illustration "The Companion", turning something clinical into a symbol of empowerment and Identity. It represents fragility and vulnerability while telling a story of endurance. The Wings represent breaking free from limitation, transcending medical limitations and embracing life fully. A form of factor is what is missing in Hemophiliacs and that enables the creation of proteins. I used protein ribbons to inspire my artistic direction.
THE JESTER is a storyteller. It represents the tension between playfulness and hardship. It reflects how humor and resilience are often used to cope with something heavy. It's also a bridge to playing cards, one of my favorite hobbies. Like the butterfly needle becoming a butterfly, the Jester wears a smile but conceals deep truths, mirroring the lived experiences of pushing through struggle while presenting strength and joy to the world. The joker is the one that can break rules, bend meaning, and represent pure imagination. That imagination is what has led me here to present this art.
And because this is UC I’m going to show some early art examples that I don’t show on IG or other social media. I welcome all feedback! All of these are for the deck.
