Here's another idea

Unread post by SRO »

I wanted to do a very clean, playable, minimalist type of deck. I've named it "Simplicity." Everything is completely my own design - pips, court cards, card back, everything. I've done everything in just red and black. It's the first deck I've done completely in Illustrator. My inspiration for this deck comes from my favorite deck on World of Playing Cards: https://www.wopc.co.uk/france/jeu-bolero The jacks are intended to look like men-at-arms, while the kings are kitted out with sword and shield. The queens have non-combat props. The card back has two-way symmetry and the cut card is black and is a reverse of the card back. I've already run this deck by a couple of people and made some changes, but they advised that I get more eyes on it. Hopefully it will feel like a more cohesive and finished product than I've posted in the past. If I'm doing this too often, I can stop.

I am somewhat of a minimalist but IMO these cards need something more - I am not sure what. Bigger indices? Enlargement of the courts? Just not sure

A poster on Reddit suggested extending the court cards more into the white space of the card. I couldn't think of any way to do that except to make them more full-body. I don't like the jack yet. I'll have to pretty much completely change his posture, but I'm not displeased with this queen and king.

Made new card backs, too

Most of the feedback that I've gotten is that people don't like the pips on the card back and want a different design, so I came up with this design and put it in 3 different color schemes. Do you like the basic design, and if so, which color scheme do you prefer?

Are you looking to make something that funds on KS or are you just looking to make 50 with MPC for friends and family?

I'm hoping for a successful Kickstarter. I've had largely positive responses on Reddit, with more enthusiasm after I've made suggested revisions. I've made further revisions on the court cards and will post them when done.
