I think it's quite the opposite.

Same decks being released over and over and over again.

There's also a navy one too. I'll stick to the luxury editions.

Looks like they are taking tuck design lessons from Jackson.

After the debacle with the mystery bricks last year and the lack of creativity with the NOC series, I'm done with HOPC.

Shame really, as they were the ones who brought us amazing decks like the first one of Emmanual Jose and the Ornates by Randy Butterfield.

I saw this mentioned on IG too, what happened?

They showed a very misleading picture for the mystery bricks showing some high ends deck and then shipped out a bunch of generic junk and mostly NOC shizz that no one really wanted and tried to pass it off. Apparently Alex refunded a few people who complained but I wasn't one of them. This is the list of what I got:

Svngali 5 – Deadeye
X Deck Red
NOC Super NOC v.2 Dark NOCs
NOC MyNOC 001 // Metal
NOC Original Blue
NOC3000X2 (Pink)
NOC Winter Glacier Ice
NOC Winter Lavender Dusk
NOC Sport Green
Halloween Fear Orange
Malibu v.2
(Product) Red Special Edition

Lel, NOC Luxury is not so special anymore after these NOC Pros come out
Just look at them: the tucks have a striking resemblance with each other
NOC Pro Meme.jpg

I also make this as well - to show how Pandrea simply forgets he did have the NOC Midnight while claiming the NOC Pro Black is the best they did XD

Love the memes but saying NOC luxury isn't special compared to the simple Pro tuck is a bit of a slap in the face of Widakk πŸ˜‚.

Alex Pandrea: β€œThanks so much for your hard work on the NOC Luxury, Widdak. Now I simply take it to be changed into Pro mode"

I don't think it's been mentioned yet, but the NOC Pro decks are fully marked for suit and value.

It's a binary marking system, as explained in this video tutorial.

I'll say this for the marking system, it's pretty smart to devise a marking system based on such a simple back.

Overall It's not a very good marking system as
1) you have to ensure that the deck is properly oriented to read it properly.

2)you need to see the whole back to read the markings vs on the corner where you can see the marks from just a fan. People who don't have 20/20 vision will struggle to read it.

3)You can't really do it very fast as you've got all these things to take into consideration.

There is a slight improvement though, where one corner can be used to indentify if the cards are in the right way, but yeah, you need a high vision to read it

The marking system may not be the most practical, but it is ingenious, and fiendishly clever.

The person who deserves the credit for coming up with the full NOC marking system is Kevin Reylek from Penguin Magic, who use to work for HOPC when the NOC decks first came out. This particular system was first used on the Alex Pandrea Signature NOCs.

I do have a couple of these new NOC Pro Edition 2021 decks, and I must say that I'm liking the feel of the card-stock. The solid block of ink on the card backs gives the deck an extra smooth feel, much like the Cherry Casino decks. The ad copy says it's crushed Bee stock, but it feels a little more on the firmer side than a lot of other crushed stock decks, although perhaps that's just imagination. I do like the feel though.

I like what they've done with the borders too, and it gives it a more classy look than some of the original NOC decks.

there are many words i would use to describe noc's. ingenious and classy would definitely not be among them.

The word "ingenious" was specifically used to describe the marking system of value and suit.

I personally thought that the original NOC system of marking suits just by using rounded/sharp corners was quite clever. I didn't think it would be possible to mark values in a similar way. So I think that using a binary system to accomplish this is fiendishly clever. Practical? Nope. But clever? Yes.

NB: This isn't from a secret link, but is straight from the official website, so I'm not tipping anything here in this thread that isn't already out there in the public domain when people research the NOC Pro 2021 decks.

I get the secrecy around magic, but I hate it - in a perfect world P52 or something would have a page explaining as many marked decks as possible :ugthink:

But if P52 site has a page where it archives every marking system possible, wouldn't that be spoiling the decks's values - especially Butterfly decks, which I think the high price is due to the fact that we also bought the secret to the markings.

Anyways... see? NOC Pros are simply NERF-ed NOC Luxury XD

If I buy a marked deck I am 100% not counting the "secret I bought" as part of the price and it's not my responsibility to "protect" it

This is a really interesting point, and I'd love to hear some more opinions on this subject. Obviously "exposure" is a separate issue, and let's maybe leave that off the table for now.

But take the Butterfly deck: is the method really that secret? I don't think so: it's well known that it's edge-marked. What you're paying doesn't include that you find out how it works. You're paying for a quality product with an ingenious marking system. Knowing the secret won't enable you to do it yourself anyway.

I find that a marked deck is quite different than a standard magic trick in that regard. You're paying for a product, and the price corresponds to its quality and cleverness. The exact method isn't nearly as important and protected as the exact method of a marketed effect - in fact, often you'll want to make buyers know in advance exactly how it works, to convince them of its value and encourage them to buy it. Or am I wrong?

Oh yes, when it comes to marked decks these 2 factors are essential when it comes to buying the deck

1) how easy is it to read the marking

2) how easy is it to learn the system

There's a good reason why the DMC elites are one of the best marked decks out there and they keep improving the markings with each edition.

Vs the NOCs, which we've already discussed . Other decks that come to mind: Madison Kittens, where you literally need a magnifying glass to read the markings or Deland's deck where there are so many markings that it takes a while to learn it.

Exactly the two main criteria I identified in this article I recently wrote:

What is the Ideal Marked Deck for Card Magic?

In working this out I mentioned five key criteria:
1. It should use a reader system.
2. It should have decent size markings.
3. It should disguise the markings sufficiently.
4. It should have markings on the long edges.
5. It should look as normal as possible.

i do not think it matters if a marking system is kept secret or not. i have not looked, but i assume you could probably find something out there for every marked deck to learn the system. only people already interested in cards or magic are going to go through the trouble of finding out what the system is. the average person that would have a trick performed for them isn't randomly going to stumble on it one day ruining the secret. "i was looking for casserole recipes the other day and found out there is a marking system on the cards that magician used. i knew it, Doris! that magician is trash! a marked deck? can you believe it? i have a mind to write a strongly worded letter to that charlatan."

Hey, I thought nobody overheard my mom say that to me after she cooking dinner the other day! :)

Thanks for the great humour.
