Remember when thevirts announced that the design of the Virtuoso deck gets retired and they'll come up with something new? ... Well technically they are right but:

For real? 3 years for these minor changes ?
I don't wanna knock them too hard since they are overall great fellows, humble guys, dope cardists and OGs of cardistry, but they manages to dethrone the Oath Crypt courts as the biggest disappointment of 2020.
And yes, it's monochromatic grey scale appearantly... not even a dope colour .

A mosaic of monochromatic pieces, the Virtuoso P1 is a symbol of every color coming together as one β a message that it is not color which ultimately defines one, but the shades of darkness and light within.
Basically the same deck with the same wayyyyy over the top marketing hype emails. I mean, Huron needs to write poetry or something. Dude writes these elaborate essays about random nonsense half the time to sell these decks. It's incredible.

I thought this image was a joke, retired it, all that. Here's a chuckle, the good sense of humor kind of stuff to be honest. I'm going to continue to keep thinking that because it makes me happier than if this is to be the real deal. It doesn't matter to me either way. I just prefer the good humor aspect.
TL:DR It's completely up to you. We can still be friends. I actually like playing cards. We live in interesting times.
Who would have thought βwhen all the colors come togetherβ, it can be so boring.
For the next release, please let the Dark Elves from Thor 2 design the decks. We will then have finally reached the pinnacle of card design.

Don't forget discounted shipping the more you get, with free WW shipping if you buy a brick or more. Plus a pretty sure guarantee that the decks will increase in price. Even their FW 17 deck has gone up after a second release with another 1 free deck. That's at least about 10k or more for that print run.
Whatever you wanna say about the Virts, they've got their own custom courts compared to most other cardistry decks. Plus their decks are actually easier to do springs and dribbles for me. (other than riffile shuffles, that's the extent of my cardistry skills). So it's not just a marketing brand hype.
However I'm curious to know from the cardists here how the virts FW17 deck compare with your basic bikes/tally ho and other cardistry decks. Are they really better as claimed?
You mean their authorized online retailers? The website currently shows them stating their FW 17 is sold out but they do link to various retailers around the work. JPgames still has a a few bricks left and selling at $17.99 pds. Magic Shop SD, also discounted from $25 to $17.99

It was $8.17 shipping to Texas for only the free deck. Meh, pass.
Still a pretty good price for a hype deck, just a little over a black Tally Ho. In UK we got $15.21 shipping for the free deck, which is not great but still good, considering the standard shipping from US to UK now for 1-2 decks is $39 Priority and $25 First Class.
A little lesson on how collecting hobbies can be significantly reduced with the rise of the tariff battles.

One deck shipped internationally from the US should only be 15, whereas 2 decks is 25. For priority at 39, you can get up to 16 decks shipped.
A deck a day helps keep the addiction at bay!

Ah ok, I only got this quote from a 2-deck deal recently and didn't know there was a difference between 1 and 2 decks. Still a hefty difference. I got the quote according to my purchase, but priority at $39 and shipping up to 16 decks seems like a steal in comparison to the first class

I always liked the Virts, nice guys and awesome cardists. Their first deck was ground-breaking and shamelessly copied by pseudo designers making similar geometric color-blocked back designs that have now come to define so-called "cardistry" decks. I even tolerated the numerous recolors, at least they added subtle tweaks that marginally increased the utility of each successive version. The decks were always reasonably priced, given the stature of the Virts. However, the increasing hype surrounding the more recent releases were a bit much, especially the eye-roll inducing verbiage found in the seemingly innumerable preview emails. But I kept supporting because at the end of the day the Virts are exceptional cardistry ambassadors and their decks are great cardistry decks.
I hate to say this, but I think they finally jumped the shark. This reboot deck is slightly different, but not to the degree where I view it as a new and different series (and I'm making this comment based only on the back design, without having seen the faces/courts or tuck box, maybe my mind can be changed on this once I see the whole deck). The over-the-top hype only further amplified my feeling of being let down by the "new" design, and the justification for the monochromatic black and white color scheme is almost laughable. These are going to retail for $22.00 per deck. I mean, are they going to be foiled? Obviously not, but I am kind of grasping for a reason for such a huge price increase. And the worst part is the atrocious shipping rates. You actually get penalized for buying more decks (until you get 12 decks, then shipping is free for your $228.00 purchase), most companies give you a volume discount, but the only reasonable purchase is for one deck plus your free deck. I've always gone in for 6-12 decks for each of their previous releases, but I am seriously debating on whether it's even worth it to go in for just 2 decks.
I just have to shake my head when thinking about come of the OG cardists: The Buck twins have long gone off the rails with their marketing shenanigans, $100.00 nail clippers and foray into acting; De'Vo got injured and can't even do cardistry anymore, so he's now an "artist"; and the Virts broke up when Kevin Ho left and it looks like they're well on their way down the rabbit hole with this Virtuoso P1 deck release.
In my opinon this is the worst Virts deck they released. After some really cool flashy decks decks they decided to do a "6 shades of gray" deck ? Really?
Let's say it this way: If that design doesn't exist and a noname new creator would launch this on Kickstarter with a 5k$ goal @ 19 $ per deck this would be an epic fail. My favorite is the SS15 because i love the color combination + thin borders (Light Blue + Light Red + Grey)
I respect their cardisty influence and they could be the top dog if there wasn't complete silence like 2,5 years. All they had to do is releasing a cool video all 4-6 month and do like 1-2 decks a year (even it's a recolor) and yeeep that leeds us directly to fontaines.... which sell out in a snap because they did what the Virts missed. Just keep the hype alive! I think this will still be a 15-20kprint run but they could have been much further imo.
Anyway i'm still in for a half brick to keep the collection complete, but nothing more. It's like buying the newest NOC deck all the time (yes guilty!)
Curious about the shipping comments because it was 15 $ for 6 decks to EU (they did a 13 $ discount on shipping if you add 5 decks to the free gift deck) which is awesome if you forget the 19 $ price tag per deck
Awesome summary by sinjin and Azid. +1 to both with the exception that I'll pass on them. I don't support designers/creators due to merits of their past. I support if the present product is good.
I forgot this for a fun read - buzz word overkill :
I'm disappointed.. I didn't want to believe that the Virts would have released such a deck after seeing the backs (and the over the top hype), and my last hope was that the faces would save it. Welp, there goes that. If someone could post more pictures of the faces, it would be appreciated.
I too was thrilled to know that this deck isn't eventually a black and white deck

Well yeah, I do like that it's not a monochromatic deck, but especially with all the hype and the higher pricing I suppose I expected a bit more. Of course this is my opinion without having seen the rest of the faces; might change if they're all different designs and different colours (this I really hope is the case) and their design works well with flourishing as well.
That's the crux with expectations. Since they overhyped the FW17 back in the days I didn't really know what to expect from them honestly. Their marketing lead me to assume it's going to be a new design though so, I was kinda curious, especially after an almost three year hiatus, what they come up with. Not gonna lie I laughted out loud for real when I say the "new" back design.
It's kinda funny how they took a shot at other cardistry decks though. They should be careful though more decks like this and they will join legends like De'vo on the -scale.
