Haven't been buying playing cards for a while now, but just had to share this hilariously pretentious deck.

Holy shit they aren't even trying anymore. Fanboys will still buy it though like mindless sheep they are.

Has Jony Ive landed at Ellusionist?
(Insert joke about patents, rectangles with rounded corners, playing cards, et al.)

Or, perhaps you add a new spotlight series where you do a two minute slam on lazy projects. You could call it "WTF Were They Thinking?! with Omar" It would piss off a lot of people but I would be thoroughly entertained. Laughing just thinking about it.

You missed the best part, where they've made the tuck case less usable and called it a feature
I'm normally loath to call decks outright bad, but... these are awful. Lazy. Embarrassing.

I...I...I...
I...I...I...
I have no words....
E is taking it down a notch. Thanks for pointing out the feature for the tuck design. I....am still rendered speechless.

This are even more low-effort than the Minim deck

Nothing Capra says about this will be even remotely undeserved. It truly is lazy, ugly dreck.
If they haven't already (and I'm sure many will say they already have), I think this marks the point where E indisputably jumped the shark.

I'm glad I stopped collecting every E decks. I felt like I was collecting a lot of ugly decks lately and it made my collection looks bad.

Weren't these on Kickstarter at some point? I seem to remember those exact pretentious phrases (the 6 of hearts and ace of spades comments) before. I swear we were making fun of them on here at some point in the past...

Technically, this is an upgrade from the Madison Blanks. Cheaper by $1.50 as well!
However I'm willing to give the benefit of doubt by thinking this is another stunt like they pulled with the Blanks. That was pretty cool as a joke but turned out better than they expected.

I think you are referring to the Ellusionist Grand Prix where people had to select which deck among six would get released.
Here is the original thread:

This is how Marbles got released. What do you think? Will they, in typical E's fashion, release all six at some points? In exclusive limited getthemnoworitwillbetoolate editions of 10000 print runs of course.

I stand by my opinion that these are the worst of those 6. By far.

If you ask me this is rock bottom for E. And the descriptions of its "features" is vomit inducing. From their ground-breaking Black Tigers and Ghosts to this? What a demise. They should be ashamed of themselves. May God have mercy on their souls.

Remember Arcane? Artifice? Sultans?
What a colossal fall from grace.
Went from hero to zero in about a decade. Then zero to cancer a few years after that.

Another worthless hype email from E within the last 15 minutes about this deck.
Go tuck yourselves, Ellusionist. Worthless morons.

I will paraphrase. Anyone who hates this deck is stupid because it is art. "art is art because few ACTUALLY do it."
WOW. I reiterate: may God have mercy on their souls.

I had to include a snapshot of the email (for those who are lucky enough to not get emails from Ellusionist) b/c it is just so unbelievable. The comment from the user "Fecal" holds nothing back.

WARNING - What follows is possibly the most pretentious e-mail I have ever received. Ellusionist is really eating up the negative publicity...
THE MOST
MIS-UNDERSTOOD DECK IN THE WORLD
Have you ever seen someone hate the peas on their plate, without ever tasting a pea in their life?
These 4 reviews were left within hours of the this deck's launch. Within that time, not one single person had actually received the deck...

"Sleek, stylish, boring." - John

" Be you! If this is you, buy em, I dont get it." - MagicTheMook

"The deck looks wierd and the box is horrible" - Daniel

"You don't even know what your next deck is going to be you b*tt f*ers." - A Charming man with the screen-name 'Fecal'.
ADD YOUR INSIGHTFUL REVIEW HERE
A lot of people hate modern art because it looks too easy. Put a shark in a tank, a lobster on a phone or flick paint drops on a canvas.
But art is art because few ACTUALLY do it.
Click this link to buy the most controversial deck in history (probably)

I wanted to share my response to Ellusionist:
"Before I unsubscribe, I would like you to know this is the most pretentious e-mail I have ever read. This is not the "most hated" deck by far but this kind of campaign will certainly place it up there. What happened to the Ellusionist that created the Prohibition series? Or Arcane? Or Artifice? This deck falls into the trendy, lazy camp that so many hype brands have been populating these days. If this is the future of Ellusionist, I don't want a part of it. I know you will sell a lot of these because people can't resist the trendy hype but I am insulted, as a collector. Best of luck in your future endeavors but I think I will avert my eyes from the pending train wreck of what your future decks will be."

Why would it matter if they had? The deck comes in an intentionally destructible tuck for the express purpose of encouraging collectors to keep it sealed.
Maybe I could pull a Banksy and sell a one of a kind deck of cards, but ship it in a container that unavoidably tears off the seal and pours solvent all over the cards when you open it.

There is a positive side to all this:
They might have a deck that is so bad, bocopo wont even rip it off...
