RAVN III

Unread post by Stockholm17 »

Hello!

as you know we are all waiting for the production of the House of the Rising Spade, and while I wait I started to work on the 3rd edition of Ravn Playing Cards, which is not just a 15-second job color-swap as Fontaine or most of the decks.
This time new tuckbox design, classic blue and a deep yellow back, then I will work on the new Ace of Spades and the jokers.
The faces stay standard because it is a deck that has to be used to performa magic tricks to normal audience.

These are renderings of course, but it is a very good start I am quite happy about.

About names.... we do not have them yet, feel free to suggest something intriguing and easy to remember :)
I hope you like it

I am tired of skulls, but dang! Yeah, this is a nice take on this deck and not stale at all. That is one terrific box design. The raven skull holding the Ace of Spades is a cool touch. The AoS card the Raven Skull is holding though should match the design of the deck's AoS.

why not just call the deck 'ravenous' lol

or, since it seems like some of the names of your decks have been either inspired by or in reference to rock songs (like 'Purple Haze') maybe 'Yellow Moon' by Pearl Jam?? :)

The new tucks are amazing.
Are you going with Cartamundi again or back to USPCC for this edition ? If it's Cartamundi i would love to see this done again with the C9² cardistry finish.
about the name ... Ravn resurrection ? (because i thought Purple Haze was the last in this series  , aswell the ravn on the tuck is dead but at the card backs alive.)
I'll be there when this launches.

Hey Lorenzo,

Love the new tuck box design for these.

My Suggestion for names is: RAVN: SOLAR for the Yellow backed deck & RAVN: ECLIPSE for the blue backed deck.

Looking forward to seeing more.

I was actually super let down when those lyrics weren't at all used to announce the custom brick boxes in the HotRS campaign - such a wasted opportunity... like 'look everyone, it's NOT just another brick in the wall!'... lol

Sweet tuck! I'd say RAVN Mandarin for the yellow if that name hasn't been used. I have this nagging feeling it has been. Blue looks Indigo to me so RAVN Indigo.

Just my ideas, take them and keep or trash them. :)
Move on, nothing to see here.

Hello!
thank you so much for the great feedback, glad you like the tuckboxes :)

About the producer we did not decide, i let Caroline decide since she is the magician and will be the one who will use them a lot.
She tested the copag 310 but she was not impressed, she still loves Ravn Purple Haze paper, and USPCC is also an option.

Names options we like are:
Freyr (god of the sun, norse mythology) for the yellow one
Mani (god of the moon, norse mythology) for the blue one

or names of minerals suggested from follower on Facebook

Yellow deck - Heliodor,
blue - Cavansite

Wel'll see :)
I am working on the jokers and the ace of spades :)

I keep you posted
cheers!

There's a lot of Norse mythology being thrown around in the last year, but the names themselves aren't bad. I don't like the mineral names.

Heliodor (golden beryl) is gem-grade, but cavansite is not, so it seems a disjointed pairing. And the pictures I'm able to find of cavansite are all of a bright, electric blue mineral, not the deeper and more stately shade on your back rendering.

What about spinel? The preferred color of blue spinels is much closer to the shade you have there.

Hi all!

Hi all! First thing, thank you for the great feedback and suggestions about the Ace of Spades.

After reading through all the comments that you guys gave to me on UC, on facebook and instagram, me and Caroline made a few changes and improvements.

The card in the beak of the raven is gone, but not gone forever; It moved into one of the jokers as reveal card.
Even though I liked the card in the beak, it created a bit of visual interference to the design of the three-dimensional ace.

New entry in this post is the gaff card, which can be useful for magic tricks. The second gaff is a classic doublebacker.

About estimated release dates, we do not have one yet. I will finalize the design and let it "rest" for a few weeks because I need to look at it with fresh eyes.

About the names we are still thinking. A nice combination is to use the names of norse mythology gods for the sun (Freyr) and the moon (Mani), but we might find something easier to remember.

Here a few nice renderings about the new Ravn version :) I hope you like it.
