I believe he’s referring to the gilded rejected, which is different from the standard rejected patreons got. The gilded just came in a white tuck box with no cellophane, while the standard does have the sticker on the cello.

It wasn't in the Patreon package. You had to buy it separately from the recent patron sale. Unsure if there's more available.

I'm okay. I don't support much for patreon or high prices in general. I wouldn't start here with this plain white tuck

WJPC made the backs gray instead of black so these are rejects. Lorenzo is selling them closer to cost as a result.

So WJPCC is producing gilded decks for less than 7.50? Does that include the tuck or is that made by someone else? Oh wait, that is why the tuck is plain.

If you look at the picture from Sir Toddalot up above, there is the non-gilded version in a standard tuck as well.

Oh yes, the markups on printing can be pretty high. I don't know the quotes for foiling on both sides and/or gilding, but here's two breakdowns from WJPC. I had inquired just to get an idea.
Option1( Basic )

1. 56 Cards/deck
Material: 300g coated paper
Size: 63x 88mm
Printing: CMYK
Surface finish: Anti-scratch-matte
2. Tuck Box
Material: 300g white cardboard paper
Printing: CMYK
Surface finish: Glossy varnish
3. Unit Price
$1.72/deck, total $857 for 500 decks
$1.07/deck, total $1070 for 1000 decks
$0.86/deck, total $1290 for 1500 decks
$0.66/deck, total $1320 for 2000 decks

Option 2: Foil on the front

1. 56 Cards/deck
Material: 300g coated paper
Size: 63x 88mm
Printing: CMYK
Surface finish: Anti-scratch-matte+Foiling on the front
2. Tuck Box
Material: 300g white cardboard paper
Printing: CMYK
Surface finish: Glossy lamination
3. Unit Price
$2.46/deck, total $1330 for 500 decks
$1.45/deck, total $1450 for 1000 decks
$1.12/deck, total $1680 for 1500 decks
$0.85/deck, total $1700 for 2000 decks

I would be interested in seeing a similar breakdown of what Cartamundi's prices were for comparison. To be fair though a lot has changed in recent years and there are other variables that would not make it an apples to apples comparison but it would still be valuable information to me. For example, if Cartamundi's breakdown for a comparable product was 2 or 3 times the WJPC cost then that would be important information imo.

Allow me to interject...

WJPC offer various qualities of stock and finish. Purely due to printing MOQs, I deviated from my usual choice of Legends and chose to print my recent Patreon decks with WJ. Using the same stock and finish as Notorious Gambling Frog (great quality) you will find yourself paying a lot more than you have listed in the above quote (a lot!)

Also, any extras like special tuck papers, inside tuck prints etc are a factor.

But yeh, those prices are significantly lower than anything I've ever paid or been quoted for good quality paper playing cards from WJ or anywhere else. Comically low in fact (not a slight at you of course :)

I wouldn't want the community thinking us creators marked our cards up so much based on that idea of pricing. The order I just placed with WJ for 3x deck designs (200,200,100) wasn't far off what I would pay for a single deck design large MOQ (1k) of Legends decks with inside tuck print etc. The only benefit ordering from WJ being lower MOQs per deck design, the price itself for their quality stock and finishes is much of a muchness. I can only assume the quote you had is for the gift shop variety of cheap paper playing cards, as WJ is a large factory that supplies across all sectors, not just high quality collectable decks.

Just here to stick up for creators

Cheers!

Comically low to you or anyone else because they aren't considering extra costs, that have been eluded to. Less than 7.50 a deck for each variant is very real in this case regardless of what you're sticking up for.

Re: Stockholm17 Anthology by Lorenzo Gaggiotti

by A. Haines
$7.50usd per deck sounds much more realistic, I agree.

Kevork's quotes appeared to range from $0.66 to $2.46 per deck, for low print runs. Those numbers are unfeasibly low, and unheard of unless you are setting out to produce a cheap product. You might get each deck down down to $2.46 if you're a large supplier ordering 10k decks per design or something like that, I've not had reason to find out. And that's before considering shipping and import fees that need to be factored into the final overall cost: just talking about what the manufacturer charges you to print.

I have no angle to play here other than not wanting collectors feeling like they're being ripped off by creators who are paying a dollar or two to produce each deck. That is simply not the case (not close).

Cheers!
