Gatekeeper is a playing card deck - the little brother of the tarot you speak of…

I love telling people about the story on the box; it gets a lot of comments along the lines of: "I had no idea playing cards were so in-depth."

And on the subject of Crypt, is it cool for us to post photos now that it's been officially outed? I've been dying to add it to my site since I got it.

You should be able to decide that on your own, imho.
You want to reclaim your mind and get it out of the hands of the cultural engineers who want to turn you into a half-baked moron consuming all this trash that’s being manufactured out of the bones of a dying world.

I think what he meant to say was that he's wondering whether or not it is still Lotrek's wish for Crypt to remain hidden. Would it be copacetic with the creator and such.

I was wondering the same thing.
I actually asked Lotrek if I could post photos to my Instagram account last year but he said he still wanted to keep it under-wraps.
I'm presuming we're allowed to share photos now he has allowed others to do so.

He had caveats for Matt's (@Bayou) show. They could stream it live, but they couldn't save and post that particular section on YT or IG. So only those who saw the live stream actually got to see the Crypt deck. I would say check with him to be on the safe side.

Is there a backstory to House of the Rising Spade or Room17 that I'm missing and can learn?

Hmm, you could always ask Lotrek just to confirm what his thoughts are at this point.

You saw the embossing pattens on the Room17 tuck? Those are actually coded texts to a short mythical story that you can decode and read which led to a secret.
I mostly collect Stockholm17 and always looking for any S17 New/Opened decks/ accessories: Brick Boxes, prints, coins, Pins, ect... If you have some weird small thing and want to trade/sell please let me know! If you are also a fan and have free time to chat, feel free to send me a PM!

I'm a total newbie here, but I'm excited for a new CRYPT deck. The first CRYPT deck was amazing. I like the slow reveal with all of the tuckboxes.

I take it this is the third mystery deck. If this CRYPT is n.3, and the first CRYPT was another mystery deck, what was the other mystery deck? I only became aware of Oath PCC from the Ambassador's Kickstarter :(

Welcome Grizz. If I recall correctly, the first mystery deck was Arabesque and the second mystery deck was Damask.

Incidently, if you still have some of those original Ambassador decks from Kickstarter, they are quite rare. The only ones that survived were the actual ones shipped as rewards to backers. The remaining stock was destroyed in a warehouse fire before not long after the rewards were shipped.

As kasuma99 said: the glyphs tell a story. Here is the PDF that Lorenzo provided when the deck was purchased (1.2MB).

I also have the letter-to-glyph table and finished translation; let me know if you'd like either or both.

As PiazzaDelivery suggested, I was wondering whether Lotrek still wished us to keep Crypt hidden; I'm absolutely fine respecting his wishes.

My decks were destroyed in the fire unfortunately. Lotrek made everything right of course. I was able to get the black and red Collector's(?) Edition. I gave up trying to find a set of the Player's Edition. I only see the green deck for sale.

Oh dang. I thought everyone got their rewards out before the fire happened. I remember Lotrek posting the photo of that fire. If you go back to our thread on Ambassadors, you should find it in there somewhere. It was tough. Even Lotrek didn't have a set of those deck, so a few of us sent him a set from our rewards.

When he gave us permission to do the live reveal, he asked that we don't save or post the video after. I think he is still battling with keeping it mostly hidden, even this amount of time later. I still consider it a miracle it has gone this long with only a few rebellious posts here and there.

You actually have a letter to glyph table? I would like one. I noticed he sprinkled a number of glyphs on the Keymaster Tarot when I was going through the book more in depth. From my crudely made table, I could make out Keymaster on the short ones like the Lovers, Knowledge and Sapientia on the Hierophant.

My poor drawings of the glyphs makes it slower to translate the longer ones.

Besides the story hidden on the tuck, there was also the epic reveal on his IG where he peeled off the seal in the middle of the tuck to show that the answer was hidden on the deck all the time! Blew many of our minds when we saw that.

Yeah, While the gatekeeper is indeed rarer and more exclusive, Room17, in my opinion is more special in both features and depth wise: Gold gilding goes extremely well with this deck design, coupled with the inner gold foil tuck make it look like a gold bar out of the box. The story and puzzle on the tuck itself is among the most exclusive and unique thing a tuck could have. It's easy to print what ever text/ design you want on a tuck but putting a whole coded story/ puzzle and lore of the series while making it beautiful and fit perfectly with the theme is quite a feat to replicate.

edit: I just realized this is not a sub for S17 deck  , i think it's better we bring the main star of the sub back on track: the CRYPT.
To say the truth i am not a big fan of Lotrek but seeing how his mystery decks all gain huge value over time maybe it's a no brainer for me to at least get one for my trade list later.

Hey, this is UC after all. We will derail the thread and spin off on unforseen directions given half the chance! :D

For newcomers, if you have the time and the interest, check out these 2 threads on epic derailments.

I contemplated posting about it here but it feels like adding salt to the wound. I had emailed Lee about it. Judy Dawson, who picks the images did not know of Lotrek's wishes regarding the deck and the consignor who is auctioning the deck didn't mention anything either. The damage is already done but they have decided to not include any pictures of the deck on the online auction page.

Even the Liturgy auction refers to itself as "Rust." Feels a bit out of touch.

I'm sure the butthurt crowd that threw a tamper tantrum back in the day after the deck was featured on several instagram and reddit posts has moved on anyways. It's in their nature to lose interest after quite a short period of time, lel.

That one was sanctioned by Lotrek, at least: referring to the Instagram livestream of rare decks. Not sure about Reddit posts. There was one leak I'm aware of on Instagram from a user that has since been removed.
