I know 3 got a lot of bad press but I actually got into it and enjoyed all of them. Though definitely the magic and allure of 1 and 2 were astounding. The press of the next was crazy, going in the online battle-royale direction, changing creative minds behind the project multiple times until reaching bankruptcy. A shame. This deck on the other hand - stunningAdonael wrote:1 & 2 were brilliant, played them both on release, and again when the anniversary edition came out. I returned 3 after just two hours, dunno what the hell they were thinking with that by dumbing it down so much. There are rumours of a 4th being developed, but since the original studio closed down who knows what that would be like.JackBrutusPenny wrote:

Re: Fable by Lotrek
New update! TLDR, he's not happy with how the official print run came out, minor foil imperfects and too shiny. He's going to reprint. He's going to release these cards in an unsealed Craft Series tuck case (just plain craft paper) at a drastically reduced price so that even collectors who don't open their decks can get in on the fun. And suggests this might become a common feature for the first print run of official releases to iron out the kinks and perfect them.
Pretty cool, however as I've decided not to include things like test/error prints etc in my collection I won't be getting one, my bank account is relieved about that! I almost had flashbacks to the blue Damask lol. Details:

450 decks in a craft paper tuck case, hand stamped with the Fable logo on the front and the serial number on the back will become available today, August 7 at 12:00 noon EDT from our website for $55 (free shipping). The sale will be open for 24hours.
The orders placed during that time will be sent on Friday, August 9.
The 111 TEST decks that were sold in June will also be sent the same day.
The pending OFFICIAL EDITION with its final changes in colors, materials etc. will be ready to ship mid September.
And it will be “worth the wait”!

Unfortunate, but I'm happy with the quality standards of Lotrek. I'd rather wait but get a as close to perfetion/creator's vision as possible product, than getting a not up to the standards deck.
Kind of funny that I had a feeling that something like that happend when I saw that Lotrek is online today.

Hold up! When did Lotrek start sealing his decks? Every deck I have of his - excepting Players' Eds - has been unsealed.
Even at $80ish with shipping I'm coming off a very long week (I'm on a 10-day rota atm and it's my Friday today) and I'd rather have a long-deserved, tete-a-tete with my pillow.

By my calculations, I'm still getting a Lotrek deck as a birthday present (allowing 2 weeks for postage from Greece). I'm OK with this. Probably not taking a third dip tho, as outlined above.shiroo56 wrote:@portcullis I told ya!shiroo56 wrote:Don't double jinx it!portcullis wrote:But the real positive is this delay looks like making Fable a birthday present to myself, if everything goes to plan (late August birthday).![]()

Re: Fable by Lotrek
I just read the update myself. Interesting. Sometimes I get a bit miffed about yet another version coming out. I do like to have Lotrek test or error decks in my collection whenever possible. For this deck, it is especially true. You get Lotrek foiled decks, which is significantly different than when he does unfoiled test decks (which he sometimes does). Also, you get a much lower price point. I also like that he is selling the whole series of 450. Why? Don't I like rarity? Well, yes I do love rare decks. My Arabesque Error decks were a great financial boon if I ever sell them. However, by selling all of them, it takes the rarity factor away. I don't expect these decks to be snapped up in a flash, but I could be wrong. In any event, they will not be close to rare (under Lotrek standards for a rare issue). I suspect that a lot will linger for sale. I think that is fine for Lotrek as he can get a bit of steady income as those decks sell. They will sell out eventually if not right away. For me, it lets me pick up one or two nice Lotrek decks that I don't mind showing around. I might even, maybe will try, to put the cards through some paces to see if they can really handle. Not sure yet, but more likely one of these cards than a Damask or Arabesque deck for sure.
$55 per deck for this is a no-brainer for me. I'm in, even if not for a brick!
(Hey, Lotrek if I am interested in a brick, will you give a volume discount?
)
Lotrek, I would like to make a suggestion on the plain tuck design. Please at least put some type of name on the tuck even if a stamp like you do for the numbering and signature. It could be something like "Fable First Print" or whatever, just so it is easily identifiable for someone not an expert with your decks.

Re: Fable by Lotrek
Most producers would be proud with what I have but I am not 100% happy.
The Official edition will have some differences from the CRAFT:
-The red foil will be matte instead of shiny and I managed to find a color that is exactly like the color of the tuck case. This is important because the specific color was the starting point for that deck: I wanted by all means to use that paper for the tucks. In a way, the whole deck was built around that stock. I'm very happy I found the foil I was after but I'm sorry I found it just a few days ago!
-The black foil will probably be a gun metal color because black on black stock is gorgeous but when the sheets are varnished, the little difference in tone tends to vanish and it's hard to see the diagonal pattern in the middle. However, the black on black looks very classy!

I told myself to save the $$ because the final edition is enough and is the truest to the artist's vision. I can't (don't want to) afford every test and error print. It's almost too much to keep up with as a collector. I lasted all of 12 minutes before I caved and got a craft edition. LOL

With so many still available, I am guessing there will be decks available for awhile. If I was you though, I would message Lotrek on his website contact firm about a layaway for a deck. I bet he would do it if you made a deposit on the deck. That way your sure you will have a deck waiting for you when you can fully purchase it. I put in my order. Including shipping does help some. Another nice thing is my test deck will soon be shipped with this order.

Ok I'm in for the sold out 2-deck set from the original offering. I see there is an option to mention that I purchased it on the order form for yhe craft edition. Does this mean I will get the test print and craft edition shipped on the 9th or will the craft edition only be sent?
One other thing, does the hand stamping on the craft edition as pictured look off center? That would drive me crazy!

Absolutely. They're stamped by hand like the documents in a public service. Some are centered but it is accidental!james001a wrote:Ok I'm in for the sold out 2-deck set from the original offering. As for the shipping, yes. You will get both Test and Craft editions together. The official will come alone.

Re: Fable by Lotrek
We have come to the conclusion that only a full initial (craft) print for the very difficult decks can have a result. Otherwise you cannot tell what's going to happen. Example: The Test print was 130 sheets. Great. When we printed 600 sheets (to get 450 decks) the weight of the paper made 2/3 of the sheets to stick together in a huge brick. All these were scrapped. The technicians could not predict that because the UV inks are drying immediately. However, the amount of ink we used didn't cure as it was supposed to.hsbc wrote:Craft... SERIES?If I get this one I'll want to get them all in the future....

Multiple prints is the price that has to be paid for ground breaking stuff. Unfortunately. But it's worth the effort.

Re: Fable by Lotrek
The sale of the Fable craft decks is down. I just reread the email from Lotrek and realized he said the sale was for 24 hours. This was so those orders could go out on August 9. I am going to guess the remainder of unsold craft decks will go back on sale later. Right now though there are still 44 remaining Official Fable decks for sale. I think the $20 Euro discount for the first run w/o a fancy tuck is a deal. It looks like Lotrek is moving in his own unique way on a similar path to Jackson’s display decks. Although, 49 Euro is quite a bit more steep than $12-15.
