BLOOD - New 52Ravens Deck

The line art is wonderful - I think everybody agrees to that. Nice theme too. Looks great overall. My only suggestions would be:

A. Make the suits in the indices bigger - would be a lot easier to distinguish them from each other when fanning cards.

B. Desaturate the reds a little. Make it look more faded. This works two ways - it makes it look more in line with the old book theme and it also makes it look like dried blood.

Great story Natester!

I offer up some names for consideration. Made 2 lists of English first and last names from medieval times, then used a randomizer to combine them. A few didn't work well so I ran those ones through again. Stayed away from nobility.

Actually, this deck of cards was created by a legendary vampire hunter in 1613 and were handed out to proprietors of hotels, brothels, taverns, etc. He included drawings of the vampires and was able to gather signatures from them from past victim's guest registries which were included on the cards. This, along with related ad cards giving details of the demeanor and unique markings of each vampire, should provide ample information for those still living to be aware of the most dangerous vampires and take appropriate steps to fend them off before accepting them into their establishments.

Really like this idea, I might have to dump the double backer this time round and include a story cards instead

I'll look at the sizes, I think they are at a standard bicycle deck size but I'll double check. I have tried to desaturate the red on the test (I'll have to post them), it makes them too dark and blends with the black. The details were struggling to push through, but with everything you guys suggest I will have another look, especially if others feel the same way.

52Ravens - I misunderstood. I thought that was your signature, but really what is a personal signature today. I saw a old women at Walmart take her time and sign a check in very good penmanship (Jackson style) and hand it to the cashier. The cashier ran it through the machine and handed it back to her. I would rather see your signature on the JoC, Joker, or AoS. You have to think want will matter in 100 years. Good Luck.

P.S I notice Jackson is making a lot of pens lately. He will come back eventually. Maybe, he will be like one of these guys then we will see something interesting. He might even be considered Master of the Playing Card

I'm really liking this deck so far. One question though, how is the uncut going to look. I've really gotten into collecting uncuts and from the look of the 3oD/5oS image, I'm really hoping the whole deck will have the same look and look amazing as an uncut.

I'm a little late for the signatures but I do like the idea of having a different font for each court as long as they have a signature look, not a printed look.

If you go with the vampire hunter story mentioned that person could be Quinten or Xavier Wraith for a male or Clarice Deadhart if female. I really like the Deadhart because that's what they hunt, dead hearted creatures.

I present for your critical eyes, the Queens.

So after looking at the original two ideas for the QoH (with your help) I've got the design between the two, not too bloody, but not too clean. And to balance her out, the other Queens now all (hopefully) look like they've just killed someone but not as cleanly as the Jacks. Making the Queens a little more sadistic than the Jack, which will lead to the Kings.

Let me know what you think, all ideas and criticism greatly welcomed. And don't forget the below still stands, 9 courts remaining...

Yes! These are amazing. QoS and QoD especially - they are just so sassy! (love the shades) I almost want all four queens to have that same level of malevolent joy. There's also something about the QoH's midsection that doesn't quite work form me, maybe it's just the forward facing pose. I'm really just nitpicking though, these are fantastic.
P.S. The tattooed suits are such a subtle touch, I like it.

They are nice. The QoS has the scepter and a flower. The QoD has Sunglasses and a flower. QoC and QoH each have a flower. The QoH reminds me of a women stoned to death.


52Ravens - I noticed the QoH doesn't have signature. You might want to change that to be consistent.

I really like the QoS and QoD, but the QoH and QoC still need work (imho)...the QoH looks strange because she has too much blood on her face to not have anything on her body and she doesn't look evil enough...would you be willing to switch the flower for a heart and have the QoH hold it up and look at you like she just took a bite out of it? As for the QoC, she looks too docile and sweet...need to show some blood on the face and some teeth...maybe pose her looking back and wiping dripping blood off the bottom of her lip as she has just fed? I know that removes the flowers from their hands (Sprouts, don't be mad), but might help with the look?

Thanks, the QoC is the main one that sticks out for me but wanted to see what you guys thought. And yes the QoH pose might be boring due to it being forward facing, needs looking at. I thought of the subtle tattoos as maybe Clan branding...might have to add it to the Jacks and Kings

I have a sketch of the KoC holding a heart to replace the Sovereign's Orb that the original has, but have been tempted to let the QoH have it. I think I'll do another QoH with a more interesting angle and with the heart, see what you all think. Docile and sweet is right for the QoC, she stands out, so redo for her too

Just continuing off of that, the QoH in the Requiem deck by Lorenzo at Stockholm 17 uses a knife to eat a heart (or at least foreshadows eating one), so maybe whoever does hold the heart pours out blood from the aorta into their mouth...?

The new Queens definitely go with the others better, though I would still like to see a little teeth from the QoH Look forward to seeing the rest of the courts!
