So, Ellusionist has been teasing some pics on IG of their "12 Decks of X-mas" series that have been announce to be released on Black Friday for the holidays:

I'll update this post as I'm sure more teasers will be coming out but, even though Ellusionist has announced these to be part of the "12 Decks of X-mas" series, I'm not sure we can expect that all 12 will be new releases - if so, I'd be surprised so we'll just have to wait and see

yep, this is pretty much the general consensus; Ellusionist quickly went on the defensive in the comments by directly responding to criticisms pointing out the similarities:

"Are you serious? We started the custom playing card market like 17 years ago. Custom decks stand on our shoulders... and the back design being on the back of the box is commonplace for almost every deck in existence. In fact bicycle rider backs have a design with a white border on the back of the box too. Did Bicycle copy, or now that you’re thinking about it, is it just a common design choice for playing cards as a product?"

"It’s not a smart reply. It’s our job to educate the playing card fanbase on the true history before accusations of theft or copying are thrown around. The long minimal two logo design started with casino decks and was made popular by magicians use of Dunes and Jerry’s Nugget cards (like the King Slayers logo). That was then dragged into this industry more by the Buck Twins use of the Wynn casino cards and enforced as a standard in this custom deck industry by the Ellusionist Madison Rounders. Fontaine came after all of this... A 2-logo back design belongs to nobody. Not even us. Which is why you see it literally everywhere. We are all just artists giving our own interpretation of what we think playing cards should be / what they should make us feel."

EDIT: I misread; Ellusionist clarified that 2,500 of each of the 4 colors have already been printed and they plan to only possibly re-print 1.

Actually, they are producing 2,500 of each color, but only one will be reprinted.

yea, I agree - and it's not like they couldn't have foreseen the obvious comparison people were most definitely going to notice and point out... in which case, they could have and more importantly should have prepared a better response before being so quick in taking offense and coming across as poorly as their inflated sense of self-importance caused them to in defending their design

I have a feeling we will be able to buy black Hudsons for years to come. T11 has a tendency to over hype decks with a contrived false scarcity. Look at Gold Monarchs, This is not a rare deck. People think it is because T11 told them it was. Kind of like Trump saying Russia didn’t interfere because Putin told him so- regardless of all of the evidence to the contrary.
