Well, it finally happend. Erik Karlsson got traded.

Ek65 + Francis Perron (some useless prospect) to the Sharks

Chris Tierney, Dylan DeMelo, Josh Norris, Rudolfs Balcers, 2019 conditional 2nd, 2020 conditional 1st, 2021 conditional 2nd (if EK65 signs with the Sharks, becomes 1st if the Sharks get to the Stanley Cup final in 2019) + (another 1st if EK65 gets traded back to the East before this season is done) to the Senators

The Colorado Avalanche thank this trade. Jack Hughes, let's gooooooo!

As for the Detroit's bad contracts: 4,25 million for Abdelkader is ridicilous. For example the Maple Leafs have Zach Hyman down with 2,25 million who is a very similar player. Also that 3,85 million for Helm is bonkers, he is a 30 point guy, gets almost 4 million and even a full NTC...? YOU DON'T GIVE FULL NTC'S TO THIRD LINERS! Also Jonathan Ericsson for 4,25 million...? What the hell was Holland thinking when he offered that? But yeah, that Nielsen contract is horrendous and that DeKeyser contract ain't so good either. Also that Kronwall contract wasn't that bad when it was signed, but for the past 3 seasons? A different story.

$4.25 million for a Top-6 forward who has/can score 20 goals and 40 points is definitely market value. He also plays the game the right way and is a leader. I think you and I have gone over this before and we just have to agree to disagree. We agree that the contract length is a problem, though.

The Helm contract was garbage IMO when it was signed, but he's still one of the fastest players in the league, and he's lived up to the contract since it was signed. Babcock always said that he is the best 3rd line center in the league (now that's easily Kadri). The Kruger contract that Chicago signed paved way for this kind of contract, unfortunately. Helm is another guy that plays the game the right way, is another leader, and he's also big money in the playoffs (granted that won't matter this season).

Ericsson is criminally underrated. Just because he doesn't crush people with his large size and use his 100+ MPH shot enough doesn't make him a bad player. His contract has always been middling. He was a good 1st-pairing shutdown guy for a few years.

Kronwall was 5th on our team, overall, in assists last year. He and Green are the only 2 defensemen that can move the puck 10+ feet on this team right now. His stats aren't great, and he's an average skater at best now, but he's still valuable. Considering how underpaid he was for awhile, nobody can complain about that contract. It's off the books next summer and doesn't do us any harm.

It seems like every summer, fans of other teams think that Detroit is in "Cap Hell". I'm not suggesting that you're saying that, but the same concerns are brought up, and we're still able to retain our young players and sign good free agents every summer. Even with Nielsen's and DeKeyser's bad contracts, most of our big-money cap hits are off the books soon, so it's not a big deal.

Also, Ottawa got fleeced again by San Jose in that Karlsson trade.

And just like that, any hopes for the playoff spot were gone and Ken Holland offically became the tank commander in charge.

There's no way in hell we were making the playoffs this year with Zetterberg.

Cholowski and Hronek should play over Daley and Jensen, but they won't, and our defense is made up of a bunch of average guys other than Green. Add 2 above-average goalies and it's just a recipe for losses.

We just need to finish in the bottom-5 again, draft Bjornfot/Broberg/Mironov/Soderstrom, and then we may have a chance at making the playoffs in 2020. Cholowski and Hronek should be full-time under Yzerman, with Kotkansalo and Lindstrom pushing for spots (maybe McIsaac), and a way better core of forwards (Mantha, Larkin, Svechnikov, Rasmussen, Zadina, and Veleno).

More bad news for the Red Wings, Mike Green has a virus that is attacking his liver and he will see a infectious disease specialist.

Wishing best for Green.

TwoPiece need your opinion on my fantasy hockey team for tonights round.

Ryan Pulock, Jeff Petry, Darnell Nurse. Which two play, who sits out? NYI play against NSH, EDM play against NYR, MON play against PIT. I am currently behind 3 goals in my current matchup, but I lead in assists, plus/minus, penalty minutes, shots, hits (with only seven more), blocks (with only one more), defenceman points and special team points.

I am currently thinking about sitting Petry of those three. Your opinion?

TwoPiece, fantasy hockey question.

I'm going to drop Kadri from my team during this night. I have possible replacements: 1. Max Domi with 9+10. He would upp my scoring a lot and he has a few more shots than Kadri, but Domi doesn't shoot a whole lot, or bring PIMs, hits or blocks, he only brings points and special team points. Or 2. William Carrier with league leading 75 hits. Now my team has a had the most amount of hits in the league on every week so far, but Carrier is a specialist that I would not want any other team to have. I have the most hitting team and I would like to keep it that way. Then again I already have Tom Wilson on the bench and he hasn't played a game all season. But I also dropped Kapanen and Pacioretty this week, removing about
50 hits, the players going in being Elias Lindholm and Brady Tkachuk. Now Tkachuk might be the biggest hitter of those 4, but he has only played 5 games as a rookie so he is a bit of an uncertainty.

So... Carrier or Domi? Your thoughts?

He's allegedly going to be traded before the 2019 Entry Draft regardless of whether or not he signs today.

Tavares is a great, great player, but they screwed up by signing that huge contract before taking care of all the young guns they drafted. That's one thing Detroit never did. They signed Franzen over Hossa. You have to breed a culture of taking care of your own picks vs overpaying free agents. Kids aren't going to take pay-cuts when you're shelling out for a guy that developed in another organization.

That, and they needed defensemen way more than another offensive gunner...

Seattle Kraken plz.

Bertuzzi suspended 2 games for going full-retard, and Mantha out a month+ for fighting. 2nd time he's gotten injured for a month after fighting. I thought Abdelkader was paired with Larkin and Mantha to do the fighting? Stupid coach...

I, for one, am looking forward to eventually getting back into hockey talk, now that Seattle is getting a team. (It's too bad Buffalo hasn't had a team since Lindy Ruff was canned.)

Dr Grant, I am glad for you and for all in Seattle!

As for the Sabres, they are looking actually pretty damn good right now, will most likely make the playoffs.

The one year I finally give up paying attention, and they finally decide to show up.

I stand corrected. And, I guess I might start paying attention again even before Seattle gets up and running. :)

3 Gold Medals in 6 years is great for Finland.

My EASHL buddy, a Detroit fan from New York, is hoping we can draft Kakko. I don't think we'll finish low enough.

The Red Wings' chances of drafting Kaapo Kakko keeps increasing. If they can't snag him, I'd like them to pick Vasili Podkolzin.

I'm hoping that they acquire another 1st for this draft, since there aren't many high-class D expected for selection in the Top-10. Take one of those forwards, and then some defense with the next 3 (they already have two 2nd round picks).
