Perhaps I just didn't understand this one as well as most ...

Looked like a $65 tuck box to me.

I wish!!! :)

$65
-$6 (kickstarter and Stripe fees)
-$10 shipping costs from Sweden
-$22 paper, red foil, deck, laser etching and cut, and shipping.
-$2 import taxes when I get the decks here in stockholm, from USPCC
-$1 for extra card
-$3 spent for the mock-ups and the lasercut test (I invested $130 for the prototype in the pictures)

rest is for myself ($21), specifically for:

hours spent on the design and mock-ups
backers management
building the box (hand-folding and gluing)
packing and shipping

what makes it special is the design, the limited edition and the signature... and that it looks awesome :)
The problem is that I don't want to spend the rest of the year folding and gluing paper...I wish I could give more than 30 in that reward.

Thank you for understanding this
cheers

There will always be a part of the collector world that does not understand this, but everything he wrote here is the truth. Developing things like this are a huge effort and the creator is allowed to profit from the hard work and difficulty of coming up with something that is different from the 300 other deck projects on kickstarter.

Bravo Lorenzo.

there are 3 variables that you did not count:

1. the campaign is not over (less than 2 weeks) and I didnt release the rest of the gifts
2. I tend to unveil things, and surprise the backers instead of saying everything in the beginning. You know that. It happened with the brickXI, the miniprints etc.
3. this is a split production (same faces, different backs, different tucks) and USPCC for this kind of production sets a minimum of 2500 units per deck. And we know USPCC: I order 5000, they give me 5500, and I have to pay the extra 500 full price.

Now, can we postpone all the complaining, the theories, and the math to the 19th of mars? :)

I could not imagine that the mini-deck was a big issue.
Too many add-ons create a mess in the way I manage the backers, the numbers and the pledges. I tried backer-kit test environment for 3 days because I wanted to try the add-on "feature" for the campaign. Here is the reply of the support guy:

"I spent some more time looking over your project and looking over the "Prices and Shipping Costs” and unfortunately you won’t be able to easily match that shipping fee structure in BackerKit at this time."

I have my way to run this campaign, these are gifts and I am not forcing anyone to add 2 decks. These gifts are proportionally given to the size of the pledge. That was the idea and it looks it worked for Requiem and Heretic. Not for No.17, apparently.

The mistake I made is that I released one gift only, keeping the others hidden.
One thing I ask you, let´s wait for the end of this campaign :)
thanx for your thoughts and the feedback
cheers

PS: "buy one brick and you get a deck for free"... what´s the problem with that? O_O
Well we waited and now we have the announcements of the gifts and i'm a bit underwhelmed by them and still disappointed.

Seems to me like all we get are excuses regarding the mini deck not being available as an add-on.

As far as the Crown decks are concerned, it would seem to be that it would be better not to do such limited items as the process of obtaining them is completely unfair and too quick, not that I even bothered nor was I interested in paying $65 for a different tuck.

While I can agree with the mini decks. I don't see an issue about selling them separate as well. I have to completely disagree on the comment that its better not to do such limited items as the crown. I'm bummed to not grab one of these too. But the decks are the decks these are hand made artworks. To say you shouldn't bother because some people would miss out is just not right.

Thank god no-one said to Picasso, "Mate we are only interested if you can print 5000 so everyone gets one". Just because I can't get one doesn't mean I cant appreciate a beautiful little piece of handmade art.

This kind of thing is what makes the rest of the decks also feel special to me. Its not just some quick knocked up standard colour change deck with no passion. The standard decks are special and obviously that passion has also driven these crown decks.

This is the kind of thing that makes the current industry movement great. Even if I cant afford it

Perhaps it's not that the Crowns shouldn't be made, but that they should be released differently, maybe as an add-on, to give more people a change. Or do multiple releases.

Like the icons were you mean? People were still upset they were expensive too. Doesn't change the idea that someone somewhere is sitting for ever making these by hand. Not in a factory, probably in a backyard shed or workshop or their kitchen table maybe. Hours, days, weeks. If they don't make enough money to cover their time then they can't even do it because they have to work.

And if you have to spend days making just one making 30 of them (plus whatever extra is being made) is probably months of painstaking labor.

If it was an add-on and 1200 people added on on. You might have to wait years for them to all be finished.

Its disappointing to miss out. But its just not viable to potentially have to make 2500 tucks by hand. And once your doing that you don't have the limited availability to make it worth a little more, to charge a little more, to make them all by hand and make it worth while.

I see your point but unfortunately even if it was a separate product I would never expect to make 100s of these. I just wouldn't do it myself.

All that aside. They are very.... very... pretty :-)

So far there are 5 different decks: bicycle branded, unbranded, mini deck, micro deck, and crown edition and he's not done yet. Awesome work Lorenzo. Cant wait for the final gift release.

I know, right? I mean, it's only free stuff that you never asked for and Lorenzo doesn't have to give out. Sucks that it's not a gold bar straight from the bank in Kelly's Heroes or the brief case from Pulp Fiction. Just who does this joker think he is giving away anything for free, eh?

Proof positive some people will complain about anything and really shows just how big of a horse's ass you are, mate. Lorenzo doesn't have to give anything away at all, and you don't have to be so damn butt hurt that you weren't one of the lucky ones to get a crown deck. Tell me how is it not fair to announce days in advance the exact time and place to be and exactly how to go abouts to get something? Would it only be fair if Lorenzo took your name first then opened the other 29 spots to everyone else? Just because there is a ton of demand and very little supply don't be going and calling it unfair. And what gets me is that you still complain about it even though you say you weren't even going to buy one. I'm calling shenanigans on you, plain and simple. Shenanigans.

man, if you badly want the mini-deck, team up with a friend or two and take the 6-deck reward.
You save on the price per deck, shipping and you get 3 gifts: sticker, microdeck and minideck.

cheers

many asked, I unveil something here for the UC community.

A brick as fancy as HereticXI, no...
BUT
I asked a quotation for custom brick boxes. Standard box with print on it, on one side.
I am working on a layout. I should be ready by sunday 14th... ops, I said too much. :)

Sweet! Yeah not thinking as fancy as the Brick XI, (still kicking myself for not getting it) but something like the UUSI Hotcakes or this Mailchimp one that T11 just put out. Sounds like you're pulling out all the stops for us.

I could do that but I don't know anyone looking to get it that hasn't already backed it and besides I already have tons of decks i'm trying to clear out, I don't need to add more to that list.

I am going to merge the last 2 stretch goals into one. When we reach 350k viking money the micro deck will be unlocked and I will unveil and unlock what I thought it would be perfect for bricks.
8 days to go, probably tonight or tomorrow the next update with all unveiled for the final week :)

and maybe something else I am thinking of, but it depends how the campaign goes
later!

Lorenzo, you got me to upgrade.

4 decks, internationally shipped to me. The extra micro deck is a nice gesture, but your fabulous art and playable cards won out :!:

if someone missed it, I unlocked the brick box before the planned stretch goal, lol
Kinda silly to wait, I wanted to do it anyway. Everything unlocked/unveiled/released

3 days to go, I didn´t look at the numbers yet, but I think I will print 5000 decks in split production, as Requiem (2500 branded + 2500 unbranded). And of course uspcc will print 10% extra, as always.

"oh sorry, we printed 500 extra decks, but it was in the contract and now you have to pay them full price.. We are so sorry dear, but we have a sloth in the control room and, you know, it takes a while to push the stop button"

Thank you to all the backers from UC :)
cheers

I bet they force you to buy all that extra 10% b/c they know several decks will be messed up in some form or fashion.

The problem is though, that they say it's plus or minus 10%.

So let's say as a deck producer you have sales/want a total of 2500 decks (nice round number). Because they say it could be minus 10% of your order you actually need to order 10% extra to cover the 2500 requirement. So you order 2750 decks (just in case it's down the 10%), but of course almost every order is +10%. So, instead of getting the 2500 decks you want, you actually end up with 3025. Not only do you end up with approx 500 extra decks (~21%) more than you really want, you've gotta pay for them too.

Lets say you were pretty tight with your specs and they're only costing you $3.50 a deck - the 'extra' they've got you to agree to pay for has taken the bill of the decks from $8250 to $10,587. A nice little earner for the factory who can't stop the presses accurately.

TLDR; It's a scam to get you buy a bucket load of decks you don't want. No wonder people are flocking to EPCC/Legends.

I completely agree with you Gareth. It is a shame they "can't" stop the presses at 2750 but "can" somehow stop them at 3025.

At the same time, it is smart to have a few hundred( I'd say at least 10% of the total needed) for decks damaged or lost during transit.
