That Crown Edition tuck box might be the most beautiful tuck box I've ever seen. Seriously. That's taking bells and whistles to a new level.

I can't believe this project isn't approaching $100K by now. I guess this just shows that if you don't have your project in US Dollars, it's just not going to get traction. This is how I felt about Rick Davidson's Origins decks as well.

Yep, we both have noted that, but unfortunately now that KS supports Sweden directly, he has no choice.

(and oh, lordy! The Crown edition is awesome, overusing the word, but it fits!)

Yes, close enough - 550 kronor (SEK)

He might have left this out for a reason, but I think not. There is this and one more in the update.

"Boo hoo, you don't have hundreds of dollars laying around, go cry your poor ass off to your mommy!" Just because you have insanely deep pockets and what seems like borderline irresponsible spending habits is just a byproduct of this new culture of overspending artists have trained us for. Spend $XXXXX and get a free deck. Buy three bricks and get a special sticker because you're worth it. Buy a gross and we have a one on one Skype session where I tell you knock-knock jokes.

I'm with Victor in the sense that backers shouldn't be coerced to buy in bulk solely to obtain a reward. Like they're some kind of reseller buying by the truckload. Can't afford to buy by the brick? Psh, sucks to be you. It's not so much penalization as it is marginalization.

From an artist's point of view it's brilliant though. By making us buy way more than we need to, it leaves their table clean in order to start new projects without worrying about selling the surplus. That's OUR job now.

And just to clarify, I'm not saying that EVERYTHING should be unlimited and available to everyone. I'm all for limited tiers, early birds and limited edition sets. But when those rewards get tacked on as an excuse to buy more than you want or need...that just rubs me the wrong way.

I see the view of making the mini decks available to everyone, that's more $ to get. BUT.... don't forget how many people think KS creators are cash cows by putting out limited decks, tucks, etc. So if you want it, you better get 6 decks!

On the other hand, I see the benefit of rewarding backers something special that could be rare when they spend a certain amount.
"When I like something, I buy. No matter who did it, how many were printed or how many (re)colors exist.

When I don't like something, I pass. No matter who did it, how many were printed or how many (re)colors exist."

My point was not "oh, ive got big pockets, i can afford it". It's that it's a gift. But others complain, b/c of it's limitibility, and they cant get it for whatever reason, it should be an add-on so they too can get one. Lorenzo gave away a lot on heretic, the more one pledged, the more gifts one got. Should he have given away a pair of requiem decks to everyone that pledged? No, that wouldnt make sense. He is giving a mini deck, which yes will be limited, as a gift. Maybe it makes me sound snobby. Maybe I'm somewhat irresponsible, that's my own business. I'm not trying to shove it in other's faces. Im making a point that there are many that whine and complain about what they cant have in hopes of getting their way.

"Cry babies who can't pledge for 6 decks or more should stop their bitching" paints a grossly different picture from the "I'm just a simple guy who enjoys the finer things in life at a little extra cost, is that so bad?" you're trying to portray. That's simply a horrible comment.
But you're right. It's your business. You can swim in mountains of extra decks like Scrooge McDuck for all I care.

It's not the fact that it's limited that bothers me. It's the act of bundling it up with a bunch of other stuff. They are sales gimmicks disguised as gifts. Can't you see that? Everyone switches pledges AFTER the carrot is dangled. It's never "I'll get two bricks because I really like this deck". It's "I'll get two bricks to get that ONE prize...I'll worry about the extra decks later".

Real gifts would come as a surprise in your package, not announced with plenty of time to spare, coercing you to spend more than you need to just to get it. I'm plenty happy with two of each deck. I don't want to have to buy 24 more decks than I want or need to have the privilege of enjoying something. Only 30 spots will be available for $65. Anyone else wanting to get that deck needs to shell out $360 or more. So that's in reality 30 plus the uncapped number of people willing to pledge over $360. Jesus Christ.

Lorenzo, Lotrek and others: I love you guys and the work you do. I really, REALLY do. The limited editions you create are groundbreaking, breathtaking and not some simple, cheap "I'll just slap a sticker on and call it a day" kind of deal. I have to be honest and say that I don't know who is giving you this advice but I think it's getting bad. You're basically favoring the big spenders and bulk buyers over everyone else just to ensure you have as little stock left by the time the dust settles.

So, you're saying Lorenzo should just make every stretch goal another line in the sand where you have another gadget that you have to pay for?

Read it how you want. I pledged a brick to begin with. Maybe it is a "sales tactic", so what? Thats good business. You don't/can't/won't pledge for 6 or more decks, that's your problem. If you dont like the way they do their projects, do like i did on Arcana, cancel your pledge. Don't keep crying b/c you aren't getting what you want and try blaming someone else.

Isn't that what it's been so far? Reach certain amount, addon an unbranded; reach another rung, addon a pendant thingy? Besides, I wasn't talking about stretch goals.

I'm talking about the 30 crown spots plus the potentially limitless double brick crowns.

You fail to understand that the problem is that we DO want their product. So suggesting to cancel a pledge is so outrageously obtuse that it makes me want to scream.
Enough of this rich boy/poor boy crap that I stupidly dragged in, my point is this:

I'd love to own a little bit of everything from these great artists without turning my house into goddamn Costco.

Glad I'm not the only one and I won't be pledging nearly $100 Cdn for 6 decks to get a mini deck free like many others might be.

I've got no problem with gifts for people who are willing to spend but it could also be sold to those who wish to buy it. I don't see the problem with making backers happy, oh well,

You guys are right about the business model. He'll Jackson did the same thing with the Arrow decks, but that was also because he needed to sell so many decks that he needed to coerce as many people into buying bricks for the "freebie".

Gosh what a mess.

The gifts are a way for me to say thank you for the support, in a proportional way. The more you put on the project, the more comes back to you.
Victor is already trolling because he wants the things done as he says.
The problem is that the mini-deck is an attractive gift, and I understand that it easier/cheaper to add $10 for that (or you were expecting $5?) than moving into the 6-deck tier.
BUT
the campaign is focused on the decks printed by USPCC, not the minidecks.
I cannot bother counting mini-decks as add-on for this one or that one, and have more mini-decks printed than the normal one lol
Let´s see what happens next, if we reach higher stretch goals.

Anyway, happy that you like the crown edition :)
it is expensive, but I gave the chance to everybody to get it. With heretic it took 20 (twenty) minutes to make the gran riserva sold out. not 20 seconds.
Even the early birds and early bricks keep their discount if they move to the limited reward when I open it.

Long story short: the more you buy, the more you get. It happens all the time and It is a way for me to say thank you.
This is how I see it
cheers

Why are you name dropping me? I am far from the only one upset about this.

Surely there will not be more minis than standards and $10 is pretty normal for minis on KS.

Say what you want but it is no different than Madison doing but 12 get one free, it's just a method to get people to buy 6 decks instead of 1 or 2 or whatever. Well I'm not going for that anymore and seems I'm not the only one.

Well, sorry if I give gifts to the backers proportionally to their pledge.

I didnt even release the rest of the gifts, because there are 2 weeks to go.

I really don't see the problem with 'buy x, get y free'. It's pretty standard practice across any retail product. Whilst designers may indeed be doing this for fun, it's not exactly the biggest earner in the world and I see no problem with a little capitalist mentality. I can't afford 6 decks right now, therefore I won't be getting a mini deck. If I want one at a later date I will have to pay ebay prices, if I can find one. Sux2bme right? No. That's just how these things work.

Hey hey hey! Why you gotta go pulling Costco into this?!

I think the whole turn of events in this and the conversation leading up to this point has been ridiculous. Costco aside, what we want vs what we have are two different things. Been that way for as long as I can remember. We all want everything from everyone. It's not an achievable goal for anyone, given the sheer volume of new releases, special releases, etc. That's not even touching vintage decks and all that goes in with them. It's pretty much impossible to have everything regardless of whatever the dream may be.

Honestly, I think some may be forgetting that part of the pleasure in this hobby of collecting playing cards is the chase for that special deck. It may be that the Crown Edition here becomes that special deck for some people. I don't have any Heretic GR at all. I wasn't able to get one, my timing wasn't on point. For whatever reason, if I am unable to get a Crown Edition, either my finances aren't as dynamic as I'd like them to be, or I have to prioritize something else in particular this month. I'll chase the deck if I want it bad enough.

The tactic is up selling sure. I think it's a good tactic for any campaign myself. As we've seen previously from Lorzeno, he gives gifts to a great many backers not a minimal few. As far as giving gifts, he's one of the most generous creators. If the word gift doesn't agree with someone, the generosity cannot be questioned. It's always far and above anything that's expected and from this backers standpoint it's very much appreciated.

Whether I end up with a Crown Edition and solid gold Ace or not, they're pretty damn cool. Hells yea I wants!
TL:DR It's completely up to you.
We can still be friends.
I actually like playing cards.
We live in interesting times.

I have to agree there. There is always someone that is unhappy because he cannot get everything he wants the way he wants. I see nothing wrong with rewarding big buyers. I rarely get bricks and such so i rarely get the free extra stuff but so be it. Dan I hear you my friend but if you want that swag get that Costco going
