Once these would have been a buy but as I don't L L L them they no longer are. I am not exactly sure why they only get one Love - I like simple but in this case, I think the simplicity of the characters faces doesn't display enough artistic talent in keeping with the rest of the work
I am certain I am going to own a Bloom deck one day

Blooms art style is consistent. I cant say it's my favorite but its very consistent much like say TWI and S17.
I do prefer their animal based decks.

I have yet to back a RoomOne/Bloom project but this one is pretty tempting. While their art style doesn't always appeal to me, I'll give RoomOne their flowers for creating beautiful, budget-friendly, custom decks. I think the hobby could use more brands like that.

I like the number cards better than the courts, but I've still backed for the red special edition.

Re: Strange Tales From A Chinese Studio Playing Cards Roomone/Bloom
I'm a big fan of what Room One Cards has been producing in recent times. Here's a short write-up I put together about this project, along with some images.
Kickstarter: Strange Tales From A Chinese Studio Playing Cards
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/bl ... ying-cards
A tuck box that unfolds into a paper fan, and custom playing cards about ancient Chinese tales
Cost: US$12 standard deck, and US$18 collector deck with foil cards and paper fan tuck box
Funding level: fully funded
Project ends: Thursday, 25 September 2025

This is a remarkable deck of luxury custom playing cards from respected creator Room One Cards under their Bloom Playing Cards label. The project includes options for two main decks: Hupo (red/gold), and Gaoyu (purple/silver), both of which come in a standard edition (US$12 each), or a special collector edition (US$18 each).
The artwork of this deck is inspired by the supernatural stories of Liaozhai Zhiyi, which have been compiled by Qing Dynasty scholar Pu Songling, who gathered oral tales from travelers and reimagined them into literary tales. These stories depict spirits and moral fables and other aspects of Chinese folklore. As the project states, "These stories often unfold in moonlit courtyards, mist-shrouded temples, and dreamlike encounters where humans are lured, or tested, by otherworldly beings." The many spirits, scholars, and deities that populate these stories are captured on the various cards, with the illustrations being inspired by classical Chinese ink painting and symbols from the original literary texts.
The real highlight is the special edition, starting with the embossed foil tuck box. This unfolds into an elaborate fan, which depicts characters from the deck. The special edition also has cold foil on all the cards, and edge printing on the sides of the deck for extra luxury.
Besides this extravagance, there are multiple special features built into all the decks, including the standard decks. To begin with, all the number cards can be put together into a mosaic puzzle that creates a giant polyptych.
The card backs also feature flip-book animation. The back design draws together two important images: a traditional window lattice and a wheel. These represent the portal between realms, and the eternal cycle of change. When the cards are riffled off your thumb, they produce a flip-book animation where wheels appear to spin in opposite directions, for a fascinating visual effect. The borderless back design has also been optimized to look spectacular in fans and spreads.

Re: Strange Tales From A Chinese Studio Playing Cards Roomone/Bloom
Got my Gaoyu Special edition deck and the tuck and cards are beautiful! Really nice to display with the fan open. That said, I have this Room One collection card that came with it, and there's no way I'll be working to complete this collection. Is there anyone in the community that would like it to help complete their collection? I have no problem throwing it in a standard envelope and mailing it to a US address. Let me know.

Wow, thank you so much for the kind words!
You just made my (and Candice's) entire Blue Monday infinitely brighter
Super honored to be mentioned alongside heavy hitters like KWP Robin/Ronin, S17, TWI, and Jack Brutus—especially with those fresh JBP Patreon decks in the mix. Means the world to us!
Enjoy the deck, and thanks again for the support!
