Butterfly Try-All Set 🦋| One Design. Three Stocks.

Hello everybody!

We are beyond excited to present to you the Butterfly Try-All Set. It is a set of three decks of Butterfly Playing Cards created with one goal: to get to know you better.

The Butterfly Try-All Sets will be available on September 12 at 5 PM Prague time.

We share everything about this unique project below.

We'll start with the most important. Why?

Getting feedback from the community has always been one of our main priorities.

What cards do you like? Do you prefer them thin or thick? Do you like them soft or when they have more spring? That’s what we want to find out.

And that’s where the Butterfly Try-All Set comes in. This is a set of three decks of Butterfly Playing Cards with a completely identical design, but each deck is printed on a different stock.



Why do the decks look the same?

Design and how things look influence our opinion. We prefer things that look pretty to us. If there are a few objects to choose from, it’s natural to have the subjectively prettiest thing as your favorite. At some points and to some extent, even regardless of the quality.

In this project, we want to focus on the cards themselves, their feel, and handling. We want to take the preference out of the equation, and that’s why all three decks look the same.

The decks have standard faces so you can use them for magic and cardistry, and take them everywhere with you.



Let’s talk about the stocks.

We produced the Butterfly Try-All Sets in collaboration with Room One for the Asia Card Convention 2025. They use three stocks for their playing cards, and we used those for this set.

• 270gsm Sleight stock

• 290gsm Afflux stock

• 300gsm Elite stock

Each deck is marked with information on the back of its respective tuck box. We even included the thickness of each stock.



We want to hear back from you!

After you get the decks, open them, play with them, put them under a proper test, and then let us know what you think.

Each deck includes a card with a QR code that will take you to an online form where you can tell us what you like and don’t like about each stock. Don’t worry, we kept the form short so that it won’t take you too much time.



A gift from us…

The form will close on October 31, 2025. We will randomly select one person who filled out the form to receive a prototype Butterfly Try-All Set! We received two and opened one for photos. Only five exist in total.



How does this affect the future?

Once we gather all of your feedback, we’ll find out which stock is the most popular, the crowd’s favorite, or as we like to call it, the People’s Champ.

We will use that stock for the second edition of these cards. We will change the colorway and the tuck box to make it easily recognizable from these sets.

This is a pretty cool idea for feedback. The obvious question is the cost? Ideally you want to get this out to as many of us as possible for testing. Is it feasible to sell them at cost plus shipping?

So the purpose of this kit is to measure the community favorite stock, and utilize it on the next deck design. It’s a great concept for feedback, and totally fine if there’s value for some in owning the three identical decks, it’s just too much for me.

Oh mate, buying three (and way even more) identical decks is just a Tuesday in this community. Now buying it on different stocks is an upgrade and way cooler.

I just think you got the wrong idea when you ask if they can sell at cost, like this will be a beta testing.

The three Roots decks also are samplers for the 270gsm, 290gsm, and 300gsm stocks. They're only US$8.00 each, so you can pick up three of those for US$24, which is considerably cheaper than EUR32.5 (=US$38).

Regarding the price, yes, the Try-All Set is more expensive than the Roots Playing Cards, which were the inspiration for this project. The Roots price doesn't include VAT, which is included in the Try-All Set. Everyone outside the EU will be able to purchase the Try-All Set without VAT, that is for 27 EUR (or 31.5 USD).

Another reason we used the same design across the decks is that different inks and their amounts also influence the feel of the cards. The more the ink, the bigger the effect.

Regarding TCC, we won't be able to comment on it right now, since it's still an open case for us. Thank you very much for your understanding.

That's an excellent point. The Roots decks have different designs on the back, and having more/less ink and different back designs will influence how they handle.

What you've done with the Butterfly Try-All Set is an excellent way to compare the three stocks very fairly! And of course they are nice looking cards.

But… unfortunately customs opened it up for me, hence breaking the seal which I can carefully peeled and salvaged. Oh well…

That's so unfortunate, we sincerely apologize for that. I personally don't understand the need of some customs to open everything, especially when it's in a clear and see-through box.

Fortunately, the decks are still safe: I still get to open the V2 Standard myself! And fortunately, the customs inspection is civilized - they just slide the seal rather than opening it like a wild animal haha

That's fantastic to hear! They are always working on the quality of their cards. Every deck we've printed with them so far has felt slightly better than the previous one.
