I like these too. Makes me wonder if a pub or tobacco shop somewhere in the UK still has a "trade" jar on a shelf somewhere.

Re: [GandalfPC] My Collection
I woke up early today and couldn't sleep so I decided to scroll through your collection and it was a real treat! Thanks to you, I've added the Murakami deck (plus the uno deck
) and the Junaida one to the wishlist. My poor wallet gets no reprieve from this hobby

1961 Sweetule - Natural History Playing Cards
Sweetule issued about 40 sets of trade/insert cards between 1954 and 1963. This was the only one to include playing-card symbols…
https://www.wopc.co.uk/uk/sweetule-natu ... tory-cards
and Wall’s Ice Cream, Hulk 1979, picked up the pair to help with the 15 GBP shipping, both sets cheap enough to make that matter, which is nice…

Re: [GandalfPC] My Collection
Another odd bit that I found existed and then needed to find - I didn’t pay much but I’m pretty sure I overpaid - gladly so, for it tickles me pink…
and, should I get the seller to part with it for my price…

Came across this while hunting hanafuda - its woodblock printed, hand colored, claimed to be old, and otherwise a mystery to me…

Is this it?

"A Japanese woodblock-printed miniature book in orihon [leporello] format depicting the story of Momotaro, the Peach Boy, in five multicoloured panels. The story of Momotaro, a defeater of demons, is one of the most beloved folk tales of Japan. Originating in the 16th century, it was related orally until the Edo period, at which point it was portrayed in paintings and illustrated books, as it has been from then until the 20th century. During WWII the character was employed as wartime propaganda, in which the 'demons' became American soldiers. In the present miniature, the five panels illustrate the story as follows, (right to left): 1. A childless elderly couple find a peach by the river. 2. Back at home a boy emerges from the peach (the boy is subsequently raised by the couple). 3. Momotaro, having matured into a heroic young man, departs with his dog to fight a band of demons who have been terrorizing the land. 4. Momotaro meets a monkey and a pheasant, who, with his dog, become allies in the battle. 5. Momotaro and his friends, having defeated the demons, return home with the demon chief as captive. The book is composed of a heavy, fibrous paper; the front cover of which has a woodblock printed panel bearing the title and an image of the Peach Boy among pink flowers. The back cover is decorated with a white and green floral pattern on red ground. Japan is the only Asian culture with a significant interest in miniature books - as it is with miniatures of many other objects (eg. netsuke, bonsai etc.). Such miniature books are referred to as mamehon or 'bean books'. Although popular in Japan to this day, few are found in Western collections. A charming example of the genre. Mid twentieth century, fine condition; size 3.8 x 3.0 cm. Size: 3.8 x 3.0 cm"

Re: [GandalfPC] My Collection
I have seen a few of these, with the 6 clowns in that style, the box style - but this one had much nicer, hand carved faces and I jumped on it…
… and I notice I didn’t include any pictures with the clowns - I guess I wasn’t kidding when I said I didn’t like them
sending in the clowns…

Still digging for info on the celluloid tile deck - best bead on it: French-made, circa 1910–1925

Re: [GandalfPC] My Collection
They float in a manner that says they must be celluloid to me, also has plenty of flex that says its a match- will see what other confirm I can get
celluloid common use started around 1880, peaked in 1910, faded by 1930
