A small pet-peeve of mine is when "simple" is equated to "lazy." Just because an art style seems simple, does not automatically mean it was easy to make. In fact, often the reverse is trueβ€”simple art styles require a lot of work in order to convey more meaning with fewer shapes.

Of course, if a style just does not appeal to you that's completely fine.
Simple is definitely a better way to describe my interpretation of it as lazy has negative connotations and I do not know how much time was spent on it.

While I hadn't backed this project, I do appreciate the effort that goes into creating a linocut. I appreciate the resulting art as well. Thanks for posting, KG.

On one side archaic and rough, yet intricate in details. Can't wait for this to empty my wallet.
You want to reclaim your mind and get it out of the hands of the cultural engineers who want to turn you into a half-baked moron consuming all this trash that’s being manufactured out of the bones of a dying world.

Nope. I don’t do kickstarters. If I’m able to choose to send my money to kickstarter or Linnea and Peter I choose the later any day everyday.

This was not the Update we wanted to send. On every level, it is awkward and terrifying for us. But it turns out, no matter how much we've wanted to run from it and keep it secret, it's shadow has slowly grown behind every Update we've sent since early 2023, and in the past few months, it's become all too present and impossible to ignore.

Some of you who have been long-time backers of our projects may remember that back in June of 2017, three months after our Supra Oracle deck project funded on Kickstarter, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. This news was a staggering blow, discovered four days after we signed on our dream home in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. A move we had not anticipated making at that time, but after our Chicago landlord delivered an early, illegal lease termination on our studio and home in downtown Chicago earlier that summer, we had to make a bold plan.

Looking back, I cannot believe what we accomplished. I was heading into the hospital for a mastectomy in Chicago, followed by chemotherapy in Michigan. We had three months to toggle between the doctor visits, tests, and surgery, keeping our studio running while simultaneously disassembling it and hurriedly packing a lifetime into moving boxes with no time to sort through or attend to anything carefully. Everything was dangerously unstable and in motion – my life, our work, our home – all swirling apart at an unthinkable speed compounded by a frightening illness. An illness that I started treatment for in Chicago, but due to insurance limitations in my new home state, I had to complete in the rural and very limited health system of Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

In a sense, it was no surprise my cancer returned under such inadequate health supervision. Late in 2022, I was shocked to be casually informed that my cancer had returned. That was the end of my stupidly thinking I could get the care I had needed for this ruthless disease near my home. Since then we have been driving back and forth, once every month, between our home in the woods to the heart of Chicago, where I receive my cancer treatments. A five-and-a-half-hour drive both ways. It is physically, emotionally, and financially draining to do my care like this, but everything matters with cancer, and I have had to learn that lesson the hard way. Moving my care to Chicago gave me access to a comprehensive cancer care hospital with experienced doctors, an enormously supportive team, and medical treatments and machines that are not available to me near my home in Michigan. It has been a tremendously difficult adjustment with many health and life interruptions, but we are making it work, and it has allowed me to be here still.

Where does this leave this project? We have steadily continued our work on this deck through this unexpected and complex health disruption. There are days when I can work long hours and days when I need my rest. This new life pace has been awkward but necessary. It has forced two very active people to slow down their life and work rhythm. And it has been, as you can imagine, an overwhelming, frightening experience to absorb.

We have six cards left in the Courts and several pips to carve. We hope to complete all this artwork and have the files sent to print by early June. We are asking for your continued kindness, understanding, and patience as we finish this work. Creating these decks for you over the years has been a gift; this deck, in particular, has been a joy amidst heavy times.

We will post as often as possible with new work; we show more on Instagram right now, as it is easier to share images quickly, whereas Kickstarter Updates contain more written content. We are happy to be moving through the last part of the deck and the book and are determined to send this first edition of our last tarot, "Lux," to you in the fall.

Wishing you much health, happiness, and kindness in the months ahead,

Linnea & Peter

Linnea, just do what you want to do - our thoughts are with you and we are wishing you and Peter success
Before opening UC to read this, I had just opened a parcel that contained a couple of Hotcakes - I am going to take this as a good omen
KoD - my initials, no wonder I grew up a lover of playing cards

Much love to Linnea & Peter. I've never seen them be anything less than a class act, and their dedication to the integrity and ingenuity of their designs is truly exemplary.

May you conquer this disease and return to the lives that you have designed for yourselves!

According to Linnea they are 80% complete with what's in their control. Hopefully these will go out late November/early Dec. Given her health conditions, I'm more than willing to wait if means she can work at a relaxed pace.

They also mentioned new tuck box artwork. I like the current design (pictured below) but I'm curious to see what the new art looks like.

Pictured are the knights for 3 of the four minor arcana (Cavalier De Baton, Cavalier De Deniers, and Cavalier D'Γ©pΓ©e).

New tuck. I personally prefer the previous tuck.

Also the guide book will be available for pre-order in a few weeks. It's a different design from the kickstarter which was exclusive to the campaign. See the differences below:

Here is a look at the major arcana with the reworked Le Diable and La Mort cards (the only two cards in the deck to feature red).
