I think there's no harm in starting with the original series. Understand that some of it will be camp (the Gorn!), and some of it will blow your mind with how good it is (City on the Edge of Forever), but if you get into that one at all, Next Generation will reward you immensely once they find their groove, and starting from the beginning will allow you to appreciate and savor the stuff that comes later.
I've found the same to be true of Doctor Who. I enjoyed seeing a few excellent episodes from the Tenent and Matt Smith era (I used to watch as a kid, during third and fourth Doctor's run, but had forgotten pretty much all of it). But, when I started watching the modern era from the very beginning and in order all the way through, that was a *most* enjoyable experience, and when I got to those newer episodes I'd seen initially, they were much more enjoyable that second time around.
So, anyway. If you want to have a nice, juicy experience, maybe look up a few of the highly rated TNG's or such, then if you like those, start from the beginning. It'll be fun.
As for these playing cards... I'm slowing down on my obtaining new decks, but this pair is looking like a must-get.
Oh, and if you're listening T11... if these sell well, I hope you'll consider also going on to the Doctor Who series! Bwahahaha.

I don't really think the new movies are popular enough to merit being placed beside the original. Still, decently produced deck. I expect umpteen colourways in the near future.
Who's the Queen of spades? She seems to be on both halves so I assume she isn't in the recent movies.

That's Nurse Christine Chapel, played by Majel Barrett, who was also Gene Roddenberry's real-life wife. She was also the voice of the computer of the Enterprise and also played Deanna Troi's mother, Luxwanna Troi. She was one of the best minor characters in the original series, we all felt for her due to her unrequited love for Spock.shunterino wrote: ↑Fri Dec 29, 2023 5:37 pm Who's the Queen of spades? I love the dual courts (QoS excepted) representing the cast of the original series on one half and the rebooted movies on the other half. Totally love the transporter pad Jokers as well. Definitely a must have deck, but I hate the way T11 put out two tuck versions of the same deck as a tuck swap just to boost sales. If there's a difference in the cards themselves between the light and dark tucks as well, then I take that back.

From the images that were shared it seems pretty clear that the backs of the light and dark decks are unique.

Re: Star Trek from theory11
not a huge trek fan, although i do like some next generation and piccard, but i do like that tuck design. the foil colors just work for me. the courts tho... the elongated, geometric bodies with ''real'' heads just dont get it done.
thanks for the pics, as always.

Tuck and key art by Mattson Creative; card art by Clark Orr
IG, @clarkorr wrote:Last year I worked with my @theory11 family on the all new Star Trek playing cards. The mega talented crew at @mattsoncreative handed off beautiful box graphics + some key art to design a full deck around. Very stoked with how it all came together. The set celebrates Star Trek The Original Series simultaneously with the Kelvin timeline, with dueling court cards from each respective series. My personal faves are the Aces and Jokers, but Trekkies will dig the whole thing!

Those jokers are terrific. As always, great stuff hsbc.
