Likewise, Part of my KS pledge was missing.
Messaged him via KS a couple of times, initially he replied but haven't had a response to my latest messages.
If anyone can get hold of him please let me know ;o)

I'd almost forgotten that I'm also still waiting for a part of my pledge.
I've just sent another pm via Kickstarter but will try him on the email address as well.

Seeing established producers like this going dark not only makes me put them on my "do not back in the future" list, it also makes me be even more careful around which projects I back now. I really have to feel confident someone is going to be able to fulfill and it's less and less that I think that way. Has anyone heard anything about Steve Minty? He's been completely gone from every social platform for over a year and a half, and there are still a number of people who never got their pledges from this campaign. What happened to him? Is he alright?

So odd. It is quite surprising how many designers seem to be having significant issues impacting them. Hopefully, they all can get things worked out.

Interesting that I posted this about 16 months ago and it's even more accurate today.

VXD, Steve Minty, Native Tongue, Natalia Silva and the list goes on. Yet somehow people are thinking to back another project by Vanda, who didn't ever apologise for his behaviour or respond to any messages and instead has been flippent and dismissive to the backers of his campaigns who waited years for fulfillment. Why anyone would think of backing that creator is beyond me.

I sent bard out after any news on Steve but came up rather slim - nothing outside of what we already have heard, but for those who have not heard anything, here ya go - you could cross out steve’s name and put in any of a half dozen or so recent others…

==

Unfortunately, it is difficult to find any information about Steve Minty's disappearance. As I mentioned before, his website has been inactive since 2020 and his social media accounts have been silent since 2021. This makes it difficult to track down any recent news or updates about him.

However, I did find a few articles that suggest that Minty may have had a breakdown. In a 2021 interview, Minty's friend and collaborator, Chris Ramsay, mentioned that Minty was "going through some personal stuff" and that he was "taking a break from playing cards." Ramsay also said that Minty was "planning on coming back" to playing cards eventually, but that he wasn't sure when.

In a separate interview, another friend of Minty's, who wanted to remain anonymous, said that Minty had been "struggling with his mental health" for some time. The friend also said that Minty had been "feeling overwhelmed" by the pressure to produce new decks and that he had been "having trouble meeting the expectations of his fans."

It is important to note that this is all just speculation. There is no official confirmation that Minty had a breakdown or that this is the reason for his disappearance. However, the fact that his friends are mentioning his mental health suggests that this may be a contributing factor.

I hope that Steve Minty is doing well and that he is able to take the time he needs to recover. He is a talented designer and his fans are eager to see him return to playing cards someday.

I do indeed. Latest updates let it search the web very effectively for news stories and the like.

I do see how someone having trouble can find it difficult to renter the world where people are all pitchforks and torches, regardless of reasons and where blame falls, if it falls at all.

I mean it does seem to have improved when asking it about Jocu (previously it would just spout a load of other peoples decks and tell me we had 100,000 followers on Twitter  ) but like, this is what it tells me about old Steve.
Why did playing card creator Steve Minty disappear?

There is no definitive answer to the question of why Steve Minty disappeared, as his case remains unsolved. However, there are a few theories that have been put forward.
One theory is that Minty was abducted. This is supported by the fact that his car was found abandoned at a nearby park, with no sign of a struggle. Additionally, Minty had no known enemies or motives for foul play.
Another theory is that Minty committed suicide. This is supported by the fact that he had been struggling with depression in the months leading up to his disappearance. Additionally, he had left a note for his family and friends, saying that he was sorry and that he loved them.
However, Minty's family and friends have rejected the suicide theory, stating that he was not the type of person to take his own life. They also believe that the note was written under duress.
Finally, it is also possible that Minty simply ran away. This is supported by the fact that he had been under a lot of stress in the months leading up to his disappearance. Additionally, he had recently sold his house and put his belongings in storage.
However, Minty's family and friends do not believe that he ran away. They state that he loved his family and friends too much to leave them without a word.
Ultimately, the reason for Steve Minty's disappearance remains a mystery.
It is important to note that these are just theories, and there is no concrete evidence to support any of them. The case remains unsolved, and the mystery of Steve Minty's disappearance continues to this day.

Is this the same Steve Minty who produces playing cards?

Yes, the Steve Minty who disappeared is the same Steve Minty who produces playing cards. He is a well-known and respected designer of custom playing cards, and his decks are popular among collectors and players alike.
Minty's playing cards are known for their high quality and unique designs. He often incorporates elements of pop culture, mythology, and nature into his work. Some of his most popular decks include the Osiris Playing Cards, the Muertos Playing Cards, and the Ascension Playing Cards.
Minty's disappearance in 2017 was a shock to the playing card community. He was last seen on October 2nd, 2017, leaving his home in Las Vegas, Nevada. He has not been seen or heard from since.
Minty's family and friends have continued to search for him, and the police are still investigating his disappearance. However, no leads have been found, and his case remains unsolved.
Despite his disappearance, Minty's legacy as a playing card designer lives on. His decks are still highly sought-after by collectors, and his work continues to inspire other designers.
I think Bard might be a murderer

Sorry I'm cracking up at this one though... Bard is SO dangerous for the non-super famous I think. I asked it about some of his controversies.
Steve Minty is a well-known playing card creator who has designed many popular decks, including the Bicycle Stargazer deck and the Ellusionist Black Widow deck. However, he has also been involved in a number of controversies over the years.

One of the most notable controversies occurred in 2015 when Minty was accused of plagiarism by another playing card creator, Dan and Dave Buckley. The Buckleys alleged that Minty had copied their design for the Bicycle Stargazer deck without their permission. Minty denied the allegations, but the controversy damaged his reputation and led to some retailers refusing to sell his decks.

In 2018, Minty was again involved in controversy, this time for his handling of a Kickstarter campaign for a new deck called the Bicycle Monarch. The campaign was delayed for over a year, and many backers were unhappy with the quality of the finished product. Minty was accused of being dishonest and misleading backers, and he was forced to issue a number of refunds.

In 2020, Minty was criticized for his comments about the Black Lives Matter movement. In a social media post, he wrote that he was "sick and tired" of the protests and that he wished people would "just get back to work." His comments were widely condemned as racist and insensitive.

Minty has also been criticized for his customer service. Some backers and customers have complained that he is difficult to communicate with and that he does not respond to inquiries promptly.

Despite the controversies, Minty remains a popular playing card creator. His decks are known for their high quality and unique designs. However, his reputation has been tarnished by the controversies, and some people are hesitant to support his work.

It is important to note that Minty has denied any wrongdoing in all of the controversies surrounding him. He has also apologized for his comments about the Black Lives Matter movement.

You do have to be careful with Bard :)

I’ve had it forget how to tell odds from evens and tell me the authors of non-existent books more than once…

Still, no worse then I do myself - I’m still sure that Elaine from Seinfeld is Richard Dreyfus daughter…

It'd make a good thread in the off-topic I guess - ask Bard about the playing card community :D but for now I think we have to assume Occam's razor - Steve disappeared with the money like far too many creators are doing these days. It's now starting to have a definite effect on 'the hobby' and will have a massive knock-on for all creators, even the big boys.

I don’t know - I have known enough people to have seen Occam’s razor options for “fell and didn’t get up”, “fell, got up, ran”, “lied, ran”

Thus the application of benefit of doubt. he did deliver some of that campaign - not sure how much, and had a vibrant business - the idea that he ran off with the remainder in some evil plan seems unlikely to me - doubts to pin benefit on abound.

I do remember humans discussing same, so I believe bard correct, but no luck with links - It knows not where it heard it.

It did provide this though, so we have come full circle:

==

In a forum post on the website UnitedCardists.com, one user wrote that they were "concerned about Steve Minty's mental health." The user said that they had noticed that Minty had been "less active" on social media and that he had "canceled a few upcoming projects." The user also said that they had heard from other people in the playing card community that Minty was "going through a tough time."

As usual (at least in my opinion), AI is still too primitive to be considered reliable...

Steve Minty is alive and well (at least as of June 7-9, 2023) as he had a table at the Dallas Fan Expo during those dates. A fellow collector (Instragram @kplittle) took a picture with him and posted it on her instagram on June 11. He definitely didn't look like he was having a hard time or depressed in anyways.

If it is true that many backers still haven't received their KS rewards, I would say that Steve Minty is a little suspect and he is definitely on my blacklist until these matters are resolved.

Also, touching upon a comment earlier about Vanda...despite the fact that fulfillment was handled horribly and communication was abysmal, David at least completed all fulfillment, unlike all the others that were mentioned. I for one am still going to support David, though maybe not a much at first until he builds his reputation back up. I am also holding out hope for Native Tongue, but only time will tell.

I am not sure if any of the above is legitimate but in the back of my brain with lots of cobwebs I have a faint recollection that Minty is not his last name. Not sure if that is correct at all.

Well it is good to know he’s alive and one would hope that if he’s well (which it certainly sounds like) he should be indeed taking care of his obligations - I do see his site has everything listed as out of stock and he hasn’t yet popped up on his own but perhaps he will pull himself fully together and stand up soon.

I do remember someone here knowing him - rooting around in my brain to remember who…

Still no social media posts either, I would email him but figure its probably a matter of waiting for him to pop back up on his own

Minty is not his last name…this is him in the picture that Kelsey posted on her IG
