Mileage may vary but I don't see that notion having any actual or logical reasoning other than we've always done it like that so don't question the status quo.
If a magician for whatever reason likes the standard faces, cool. But it shouldn't made look like magician's decks need to have or are better with standard faces.
Mahdi works with own designed faro cards - no corner pips, no indices.
Same goes for the notion that a standard deck is more trusted. If something is tempered with, then of course it's a large printed standard deck.

Yes, but Ondrej claims (and I would agree) that a custom back can be used if it is beautiful enough to justify its use

It's amazing how much mileage Ondrej has gotten out the this back design!

At their core he's just done gilding, foiling and recolors, but man, I have to admit they're all beautifully done. Better overall IMHO, than DB's split spades and gatorbacks where it's all been just different colored foiling.

Still I really hope this is the last one he's doing on this design. I mean Zero here should mean just that right? Not a reset for multiple colored foil, holofoiling, etc

Nike Air Max Zero was just one of many, that just used "zero" for a fake heritage/prototype/origin hype. After Air Max Zero still new models like the AM 270 were introduced.
Ondrej will have other Butterflies after these. Zero is just marketing to sell you five decks in a series were the original name/theme only gives you four, lol.
I like them all though, I just can't stand the limitation hype Ondrej had to imply appearantly for seasons colour versions. Therefore, I'll appreaciate the design/colours on the screen and move on to other decks .

Frankly I’m just looking forward to colored versions of these for general use, so I wont be happy until he churns out a version by the thousands - which I imagine he will do quite shortly

He just posted confirmation of above - there will be a normal release of colored backs after this.
These colors are the ones from the original red/black decks instruction card back, and were the original back design intended according to Ondrej.

Thinking about it I figure he may release the same color way as unlimited, just without his special tuck and case - don’t see why he would need to keep the back colors limited…

These are his private stash - I guess he figured rather than do a full run he could do a bank run

He has every right to make a buck, and may think he’s doing his fans a solid (and perhaps he is, just not for this fan)

At the price it would appear there is Zero chance I will bother trying to get any - but happy to hear they will be full release soon

These are supposed to be magicians decks, being marked and with standard courts. The price negates the purpose completely.

Ondrej has said the remaining decks will not be sold which is why the asking price is so high as there are only 100 individuals and 100 in the sets. He said this is intended to be the "collector item" among the butterfly playing card series. Considering cost of carat case basically makes the deck 65 which isn't bad considering the rarity. Personally while Im broke I will prob go for one because not only is the product beautiful but I think Ondrej is one of the nicest people out there and with a new baby in the home I am more then happy to help contribute.

He could contribute more by himself if he printed 2000 decks and sell them instead of just 200 ( out of a 1000).

Well, let's see when he'll do the full unlimited release. The seasons edition shows just how popular and beautiful the decks can be. He can always do a marked and unmarked version for both magicians and poker players. Also hoping that he'll consider doing a 2nd ed with a recolor of the courts to match the backs.
