Christian Louboutin Playing Cards

A double deck of playing cards from the fashion brand Christian Louboutin. Not a whole lot of pictures of the court cards available so I had to use poor scrap pics. But good news: We can clearly see from the few pictures that the court cards are NOT repeating! This deck seems to come in two different boxes, red and black but both colors have the same decks in them: red and black. Or that's what it looks like anyway. These decks appear to be gilded as is custom with decks from luxury brands.

There is a ebay listing for an unopened set for 99,97 USD + shipping from Japan RIGHT HERE. After a quick search it appears to be the best price available but notice the words QUICK search. If anyone wants to buy one, I'd recomend on trying to do some digging on Google first.

The Japanese term for playing cards is "trump" - トランプ (roughly to-ra-m-pu) :geek:

hsbc answered this simply and perfectly. I live in Japan and am currently running my art playing card kickstarter campaign from here, focussed around Japanese culture - so feel free to ask questions about Japanese terminology and I'll help if I can. Japanese English takes a real English term and generally misuses it with blatant disregard, leaving a nation of people who think they speak some English but in fact are worse off than speaking none - they think 'trump' means playing cards, 'billiard' specifically means the 'pool' variant of billiard games, and though there are many to pick from, a more extreme example, that 'metabo[lism]' means fat people.

Oh! And as for what it MEANS, it's just signifying that it's a regular 52-card French-style deck, as opposed to traditional Japanese cards called karuta: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karuta" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Thanks for the info!

What was confusing me was different titles from the same seller for what appeared to be identical items. In addition, they had identical descriptions but different prices.

hsbc -

I do love karuta decks though. And it's odd because in Japan they don't need distinction - as they would never refer to karuta as playing cards, or cards, or anything other than karuta (or its variants). If in Japan one hears 'playing cards' I imagine it's more likely to be confused with games such as Magic the Gathering/Yugioh...

In fact their distinctions are so arbitrary it's basically - this is ours and that is foreign - so there's no need to add more. For instance, they have 'nashi' (a species of Japanese pear), and then they call all other pear species, from anywhere, 'La France', which is just one species of pear that's actually called a Claude Blanchet after the man who discovered them (who was French). My point being is that if in Japan you have your game (karuta) and then use an English word (cards/playing cards), you don't need to distinguish it any further.

The listing on the original post was sold.

Current cheapest listing on ebay for 94,99 USD or make an offer and a free shipping from Japan.

If somebody wants one of these sets, this is a pretty nice ebay listing for 60 USD, other deck opened, other one still sealed. Shipping from Hawaii.

(The next cheapest listing is currently for 104 USD)

Nice! If you have them opened, would you mind uploading some pictures? The ones in the opening post are kinda bad but they were the best ones available. Also kinda weird that when I searched on ebay "Christian Louboutin Playing Cards" it doesn't show me that red box listing but works just fine when I click the link. But yep, the one is for sure the best price available, since both of the decks are unopened.

I do plan on opening my decks but I have not done so yet. I am way behind in looking at the decks I buy. I will definitely take photos when I do.

I've encounters quite often the same problem. I wrote the exact title of a listing in the search bar but it didn't show up even with worldwide search and even if the seller ships to my location. I suspect some sort of local filter is running in the back ground of eBay. I didn't tried a VPN yet, but will do in the future to test that theory.
